i was just wondering if i can still take my mtx if i have a cold? i was planning on starting it tomorrow, but have come down with a nasty head cold. Do i need to worry about it?

Hi again!

I would call your Dr and check, at my hospital we have a dedicated mtx nurse who we can call also to check things like that, they will advise you. If you can't start tomorrow don't let this put you off though - start next week instead! I have had a couple of times when I was advised to skip a dose because i was ill and my body needed a break to fight off bugs but you just miss one and take the next as normal...

Hope your cold isn't making you too miserable!

I hope you are feeling better.  My rd has always told me that when ever you are feeling ill, flu, cold etc, do not take your mtx, wait till you are better.  You also have to be careful of cuts too.  If you are taking mtx I would advise making sure your tetnus shot is up to date.  I got cut on a piece of metal at work didn't think anything of it, within less then a week I had a red ring around my calf.  I was off work for over 4 weeks, had to keep the leg propped up and was on very 2 strong antibiotics to get rid of the infection.  I could have no mtx nor enbrel through the entire time.  meme

She knows I'm on mtx and didn't tell me to stop taking it. She is my family doctor. I don't think she know much about any thing. I need to change. I just feel bad doing it.

My rheum doctor I don't like either he just don't take the time to talk to me. He does get me in when I call and works with my meds but he just does not have a good bedside manner. He is the only one in town also.

Should I ask her about this. My nose is still dry it has been like that for months now. My eyes are not dry because I can still cry.

I had to stop wearing my contact about 4 months ago because my eyes would dry out with them. I have wore them for years and they never bothered me.

I went to the eye doctor and he said every thing looked OK.

Is it true if you have rheum nodule that means your RA is worst. I have them at my elbows on the front of my arm where it bends. They are both swelled today.

I'm not in as much pain as a lot of you guys. Some times I wonder if I have a high pain level since I was in that acident and my back was in straight pain for two yrs. I have aches in my fingers and elbows, wrists and my upper back hurts sometimes. I was always about 6-10 on a pain scale a few yrs back for the muscle pain in back. Now I would say about a 3. I do not want to go back to that pain again. I had the steroid shots in my back seven of them and one in my hip that has helped now for two yrs.

I don't want the both the pains together.

Sorry I got off track.

crunchy, i am to take 12mg a week, i have 2 girls, 9 and 17. i am a nurse, but work in a psychiatric hospital. i moved in my new place a year ago and have found it to have mold in the walls, slowly we are gitting this fixed, but i really think this has played a big part in my being so sick. last year after i moved in , i got pnumonia, strep and sinus inf.Now after working with it for a couple weeks(mold) here i am sick again. i guess i am answering my own question..... Has to be the mold! plus my smoking doesnt help either

I'm certainly not saying this for others to continue taking their mtx while having a cold.  They need to ask their doctors about that.  What I am saying though is, for me, I have not found that taking my mtx while having a cold, makes it harder to fight...nor have I ever had any problems with a cold while taking mtx.
