prednisone scare!!! | Arthritis Information

some of you may have read my post recently on "Chronic Fatigue " I had  the  other day.   So tired you  can't speak, feels like heart beating only every other time....now dr suspects adreanal failure from weaning off prednisone too quickly  (blood pressure bottom's out)or Cushing's Syndrome  where your body makes cortisol and you take some sort of steroid and have too much in your system.  I am being referred to an endocrinologist.      Anyway, the doctor put me on 10 mg prednisone for time being and I feel much better!  Pain is reduced and the chronic fatigue is soooo much better.  Anyway, just thought I'd let other's know more of the good/bad of prednisone.  KarenNTx38510.9348263889

INFORMATION AND THE UPDATE KAREN. GLAD
YOU ARE FEELING BETTER. I'M TRYING TO WEAN
OFF PREDNISONE TOO (AND HOPE SOME OF THE
WEIGHT WILL GO TOO??) GOING TO GO FOR MY
3RD REMICADE TREATMENT TOMORROW SO
GOING TO ASK MY RHEUMY ABOUT THE BEST
WAY TO WEAN DOWN. HAVE A GREAT EVENING.

The pain has returned after day 2 off pred but today it seemed to have eased off after lunchtime and can cope with it quite well.

Im not on any med for my RA as 7 weeks left of my pregnancy - so im hoping i can stick the pain out until after baby and then they will start me on something.    not been on anything before as the RA came on the day i got pregnant!   CRAP PREGNANCY!!!!

Hope you are now ok ??

Chelybel

WOW!  CONGRATS ON THE BABY?  IS IT YOUR FIRST?  I COULD NOT IMAGINE RA AND PREGNANCY.  DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR PREGNANCY HAS PUT YOU IN A "REMISSION" STATE?  I have a friend with lupus and SHE'S BEEN IN REMISSION SINCE SHE HAD THE BABY.  LET'S HOPE YOU DO AS WELL!   GOOD LUCK!

Thanks!

Unfortunately, my RA came on literally the day I became pregnant - well it can't be far of as only then did my pain and problems start.  It is my third child - third son to be! Apparently RA is supposed to disapear in most people when pregnant but mine was the opposite it came on crazy.  Was in hospital sometimes twice a week having my shoulders drained, on crutches as unable to move knees to walk etc etc etc - so this pregnancy has been 9 months of hell for me to be honest.  The best they could offer me was paracetamol which as you can imagine does nothing at all for the pain of a headache let alone this.  After being in tears at my Thyroid Consultant appointment at 6 months pregnant and unable to hold a pen for stiffenss and pain he could see I was at my wits end and prescribed my PRED which my Rheumy wouldnt as too much of a pig of a man and not interested in seeing me until 6 weeks AFTER birth.  I took them and after just 2 hours Pred worked leaving me pain free for first time in 6 months.  BUT although pain free the last few weeks before stopping them I had become SO depressed and picked on everything you could imagine.  Id cry all the time so my GP weaned me off for my own good as he was worried that if i contined like this there would be a stronger chance of me developing post natal depression on top after baby born.  Nightmare!!!

The only positive thing is that once baby is born I can start trying different RA medications as no risk then to baby.

Speak to you again!
