Folic acid and neuropathy | Arthritis Information

I ran into some info I wanted to pass on in case it's of interest to those of you dealing with neuropathy.

It was news to me that high doses of folic acid can lead to B12 deficiency and associated neuropathy and other "significant central nervous system" side effects.

I know RA itself, and I think some of the meds, can cause neuropathy by themselves. I didn't know that the extra folic acid a lot of us take might also be a factor.

Actually, if I read the article correctly folic acid can mask B12 deficiency not cause it.  I think the concern is that B12 deficiency might not be diagnosed because the symptoms are masked by the increase in folic acid.
