Excersise | Arthritis Information

Hello, I am in a quandry, I have been riding a recumbant stationary bike for cardio excersise for about 8 months. I lost about 26 pounds, and would like to loose about 20 more. The problem is I am having alot of joint pain (and burning in my knees) right now, so I am not sure if I should push through it or not, any suggestions? Knees, hips wrists hands and elbows, the works are affected right now, never been this bad, I don't want to make things worse, but the extra weight was no good either! Do not do the exercise, and seek the advice of a physiotherapist in developing a safe exercise program. I recommend swimming! Swimming is a great idea. If you like the idea of biking though, the gym that I used to be a member of had a very low impact bike that they actually recommended RA people using. It was the COOLEST BIKE EVER. LoL You lean waaayy back in it and it doesn't allow you to over-extend your legs (which is where a lot of your pain comes from) and I really can't explain it, but I used to do it for 30 minutes and I felt great. So there are things out there, you just kinda have to hunt for them. :) I wouldn't do the biking, I'd also talk to a professional about what type of exercise.  Also, you need to find out the extent of RA damage to your knees.  I thought that my knee pain and swelling was from RA but xrays showed OA, no cartledge left, spurs anterior and posterior both knees.  If I had continued exercising my knees I would have done much more damage.  I stopped and started to diet by cutting my portions in half.  I've lost 16 lbs. and am still losing. Good luckI use a recumbent bike also and when my knees and/or hips are bothering me I lessen the tension and go very slow and steady (just enough to keep me lubed.).  Some days just can't exercise at all or do very little, I just try to pace myself.  Hugs and good vibes.  What about yoga?  Very low impact and stretches what we need stretching without harming. My vote is still for the swimming. It's just so FUN Swimming is just the best. But the water needs to be warm!
