Provigil for Fatigue? | Arthritis Information

I was reading at another message board for people with Lupus and several people are taking Provigil for fatigue and having alot of success with it.  When I asked my Rheumy about it weeks ago, she just laughed and said it was a stimulant.  Does anyone take this medication or know much about the drug? Dont know a whole lot about it, but found this kinda amusing article on it,

Hi Karen...My rheumy told me about Provigil and that they used it a lot for MS patients.  My PCP told me that it's just about the same as Ritalin which is mostly used for children who have attention disorder.  Provigil is very expensive and Ritalin is very reasonable.  College kids use Ritalin just before an exam so that are more alert to study.  It is an upper.  I was advised not to use it.  But boy oh boy, there are days when I could use a stimulent.

Take care

THANKS DAGNA FOR INFO!!!!   READ THRU THE ABOVE WEBSITE AND ANOTHER PAGE AND GOT ALOT OF INFO.  APPARENTLY THE FDA IS EXPANDING ITS USE BEYOND PEOPLE WITH SLEEP APNEA.  ALSO CHECKED A WEBSITE WHERE PEOPLE RANKED THE DRUG, TOLD THEIR OTHER MEDS, ETC.  THE OVERALL RATING WAS 9.7 OUT OF 10!!!  MOST PEOPLE SUFFERING WITH  CFS AND FIBRO AND DEPRESSION SAID IT GAVE THEM THEIR LIFE BACK!!  NORMAL DOSE WAS 100 MG TWICE A DAY.  MOST THOUGHT IT COUNTERED THE SLEEPINESS OF ANTIDEPRESSANTS.  USUALLY WELL TOLERATED AND FREE OF SIDE EFFECTS.  HEARD IT COST 0 FOR RX AND INSURANCE  WOULDN'T PAY UNLESS FOR SLEEP APNEA UNLESS A PSYCHIATRISTS APPROVED TO COUNTERACT THE ANTIDEPRESSIVES.   HOPEFULLY THE FDA WILL WORK QUICKLY TO EXPAND IT'S USE AS THEY ARE SAYING NOW. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH WHAT I READ AND PLAN ON LOOKING INTO TRYING TO GET A RX ASAP.  WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW IT WORKS.
