Hey guys

I am wondering what yu guys think.  I have an identical twin sister.

We both have autoimmune problems with our thyroids.....mine is hypo hers is hyper.

She has osteoporis pretty bad....me...only the beginning stages although progressing (my last bone scan was 2 years ago this month I have another scheduled next month.

My RA was diagnosed over a year ago...and is progressiing rapidly on arava and enbrel.

My sister is beginning to show some real signs of RA and it progrssing really rapidly.....she has a doctors appt in a couple of weeks....could  it be that she has that too????  Isnt that a bit wierd.....

I dont get to see her often....I live in NY  she lives in NC.  we talk alot ......is the coincidence or genetic ????

I am a twin, too.  So far all of our doctors have told us that if one twin develops a disease then the likelyhood is far greater for the other twin to also develop the disease.  We both have thyroid problems, however to date my womb-mate

Is there a family history of auto immune disease?  Usually with any auto immune disease if you have one, there are pretty good chances you will develop another.  I'm not sure if all of this is a coincidence or if it is because you and your sis have exact matching DNA.  You might want to try and google something like RA and identical twins and see what you come up with.  This has piqued my curiosity and I am going to go out and google this later.

It may be that your twin has the marker but hasn't had anything to trigger it yet.

This is where that "genetic testing" posting would come in handy.

I'll see if I can find that.

Hi,

I am interested in this one too! My sisters are non-identical twins and look totally opposite to each other. I am older than them and people say I look like both in certain ways even though they look nothing like each other! One sister seems to be following the same path as me in lots of ways, I suffered depression when I was younger and then she was diagnosed with a chronic depresion, I was diagnosed with PA and she has developed psoriasis. I had abnormal cells on my cervix at a young age and then she had the same a few years later - it's like anything that happens affects us both! She jokes that I try things out and then pass them on to her! Interstingly all three of us have an identical mole on our left cheek, Mum has it too, my other sister has a 5 year old daughter so we're watching carefully to see if she developes it too!
