Just got our power back on after five days!! We had a major ice storm and lost power. Our yard looks like a war zone and we lost some good trees but we made it!! WHEW!!
We live inbetween Springfield & Decatur Illinois. Did anyone else get to experience this winter wonderland?
Woah!!! Well I'm glad you made it! Yeah, Liz(GrammaSkittles) lives up in WI and got some of the fun too. But not like that!!!! Did you freeze your tushie off???? LoLI stayed home for the first three days. My hubbie hooked up a generator to our furnace and luckily I have a gas lamp collection which I fired up. My son (13) and I had fun the first couple of nights playing board games, cards, word games, etc. By the 4th night we were ready to kill each other. LOLThink I would rather have the cold. Where are your from Katie? Did u go through hurricane Katrina? My mom & sister live in MS & LA and went through Katrina. I ended up with my sister living with me for over a year. She is back home now. My mom stayed with me for a couple of months. My sis lost everything she had. Her home, houseboat, everything but her truck and her clothes on her back.
Oh no!! :( I am in FL. I went through hurricane Ivan. Wasn't even 1/10th as bad as Katrina...but it was still enough. At the time I was freinds with a girl who had 6 kids a cat and a dog. Her hubby was military and flew with the big cargo planes..he had to evac without us. So I helped her get the kids and animals up to Montgomery, AL for almost a week. It was awful, yet fun. We had no power, constant tornado warnings in the middle of the night...UGH it was an amazing trip. The youngest of her kids was 3, and the oldest was 18. Oh, and I had two cats of my own. LOL All of that in two hotel rooms! WHEW! I hope we NEVER have anything even close to it again!
My mom (who is most definitely wacko), used to have hurricane parties until Katrina. Now she won't mess around. She's getting the hell outta Dodge. My other sisters (have 4) 2 of which live in FL. One lives in Gainesville other in Lake Butler. We also had a major tornadoe come through in March and tore up Springfield. It's been a crazy couple of years with the weather.
Glad to see you made it through...I was wondering if we had any friends there...I just cant even imagine that...so cold with no heat...that just sounds unbearable..do you have little ones? I bet you are so relieved to be getting back to normal. How often does this kind of thing happen?
I have a 13 year old son and an 18 year old daughter (who we now refer to Benedict Arnold cuz' she traded us in after the 3rd day to stay with a friend who had power). My whole body ached and I really missed my heating pad!! The last time we had a major ice storm was in Easter 1978. We get snow but nothing too major. Every now and then we get the big one. I used to love the snow but now it makes me hurt!! It sure is pretty though!! There was a full moon and the light from it shining on the snow and trees was beautiful!
