Methotrexate - Just started | Arthritis Information

I have been recently diagnosed with RA and just started Methotrexate:  1 pill, then 3, this week I go to 5 until I get to 7.  I just had pain in my feet to start and in the 2 weeks since taking these meds I have pain EVERYWHERE.  Knees, hips, wrists, etc.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Do the meds "stir everything up" so that it can then turn around and supress it?  My next Dr Appt is not til 1/3/07 and I hate to go thru the holidays like this.  I have a call in to the Doc but was wondering if any of you experienced this also. ThanksMarlene:  When I started Methotrexate, it helped me.  I felt much better the next day.  I have been on it for about 1 1/2 years and I am starting to get side effects and am trying to cut it back a bit.  Are you getting the folic acid?  If not, ask the doctor's office about that--it is very important that you take folic acid while taking the Methotrexate.  I would let them know what reactions you are having and let the doctor decide if this is normal or not.  I would not wait for January.  Good luck.

No, arthritis meds don't do that. I second Cat's suggestion. Call your rheumy now, before the holiday season gets going full steam. You may need to change your NSAID, add another pain med, wait till the MTX starts working (it may take awhile), or something else. Ask your doctor, be a "squeaky wheel"
