Interesting read.
I keep reading over and over and many docs feel autoimmune illness is caused by bacteria and virus or starts that way and then the immune system just misfires and stays that way..
I know we cant turn the immune system off if only they could get it back to normal whatever normal is ...
gosh colitis was easy in the worse case they remove your colon and the disease is gone...
they cant remove the immune system or every joint in the body.. hell even if they do remove your joints from what I understand these misfiring immune systems of ours attack the articificial joint.. gee lol
If only they could figure out why our immune systems are so pissed off...
I had lots of allergies as a kid very bad ones and then somehow i got them to go away only for this to come along...
give me hayfever anyday I'd sneeze 24/7 to get rid of this.. sneezing does not destroy your body...
noone else in my family has this it really bothers me only mark gets to suffer I suppose and I really dont want to suffer
hell I would gladly take my colitis back over this that can be fixed it's not pleasent but one surgery and its over for good.
I quess my immune system was fried forever I just wish I had not set it on fire somehow or it would just go to sleep. hell thats it put the damn immune system to sleep LOL
well I quess that would be bad... noimmune system at all is just as bad and Therin is the dilema the docs face...
gosh it really is all to much at times.
at least when it was hayfever you toke a pill and the hayfever stopped it's to bad they could not take a sample of our dna and have a way to say well yup no wonder why your fried look at all the holes in your code and then inject ya with some new code and say hey go fix yourself now.
maybe someday huh? unfortunatly that day is not today.
Good article. Thanks for the link. Amazing.
Last paragraph: "All in all, therapies that muzzle TNF have benefited approximately 400,000 people, approximately 70% of whom suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. By pursuing their vision, Feldmann and Maini turned a speculative hypothesis into a potent discovery that will aid myriad patients for years to come."
Mark1 said, "hell I would gladly take my colitis back over this that can be fixed it's not pleasent but one surgery and its over for good." My GI doc said the same thing to me! I told him my sister has ulcerative colitis and he said if he had to choose between UC and RA he'd pick UC because once you have that surgery (however unpleasant the side effects) it's over, you're cured.
This stuff is bad, really bad but I know we can make it.
A rheumy said " the good news is that it doesn't kill you, the bad news is that it doesn't kill you"
We find the strength to go on thru these boards, friends, family and our spiritual choices. I just imagine having this say 50 or even 100 years ago and realize how so very blessed I am. We can communicate with each other, have meds to ease our lives, and surgeries to help regain some movement.
Take care.
Mark, many people feel that bacterial infection is at the root of our problems, and that there is a good chance of remission, sometimes even cure, with a specific type of antibiotic treatment.
