MTX nausea | Arthritis Information

I was on 7.5 mg of MTX for 4 months or so, then 2 weeks ago the doc brought me up to 10mg. so last night was my second time on the 10mg.
I am pretty nauseated today and unfortunately having to bake cookies for the holidays. Very Very unexpected.
Is this a clue in to how this MTX is going to go.

I tend to get nauseous when doing cardio, like the elliptical trainer. The Folic Acid supplement is supposed to alleviate this, I am told. Are you taking Folic Acid?

Also, it says at the bottom that you're also on Prednisone and Embrel. Maybe that has something to do with it? I only take MTX right now.

mtx made me really ill from the get go...BUT you can get great anti-nausea drugs (the same ones they give chemo patients) that make it okay. Call your RD and ask for a script!

I was on 15mg of methotrexate and would get nauseous. My doc said it may be that or the NSAID I was on at the time (which was mobic). Nausea stopped when I was off both and on Enbrel. Unfortunately one of the side effects from oral mtx is the nausea.  You can get anti-nausea meds from your doc.  When I was on oral mtx I kept saltine crackers by the bed and munched a few of those before getting out of bed.  Make sure you are taking folic acid as it does help the nausea somewhat and also prevents mouth sores and hair loss.  If the mtx is working for you and you can't stand the nausea, you can always ask to switch to the injectable. The shots are not bad.  Doesn't burn or anything like that.  My insurance doesn't cover it but it is relatively inexpensive where I live.  I get a 2 month supply for the same price as the oral for a month.  My syringes (I do 4 at a time) are about 8 dollars.

Me, nausea and MTX have been constant companions since 1998 (I'm on 15 mg). Taking a folic acid every day definately helps. Also drink a ton of water -it helps work the meds through your system....recently I read on one of the other posts something about carb-loading before you take the mtx and that will help, I tried it last week...and whether real or imagined, I didn't experience quite the level of nausea I usually do.

Most of my nausea is now gone and I take Folic Acid to help.I am taking 1mg of folic acid a day. And now that you mentioned it, I dont think I had enough water the other day. I try to remember especially the day before the day of and the day after. This is probably the problem.

With all this holiday baking going on I am forgetting. I expect my rheumy will be upping my mtx anyway. Thanks for the carb suggestions. I love a bowl of noodles with butter. And how about donuts?

Thanks for all your help.
