Hers my dilemma  My ankles are always swollen....and hurting too....Is there anything I can do.....is it the RA???  I have had this for a long time even before I was diagnosed...at first no real pain but now it really hurts....I have the darn bakers cyst behind my knees and that isnt much fun either could it be causing more stress on the ankles

Sorry to be so negative ....I really wish all of you the best of holidays. 'Take care  Love to all

An awful lot of people have trouble with their feet. My ankles do swell up like mean, little donuts. But not to the extent you are experiencing.

You can try these things to help with the pain:

Fill a sock with uncooked rice, microwave it for about a minute, minute and a half and wrap around each ankle.

The other option is to try crushed ice in one of those wraparound packs. If that's not handy, frozen peas.

Ankles are hard because they are too high up to soak easily in paraffin baths or foot soaks.

Use sports creame, it really helps my hands. I have not tried on my ankles yet, but a whole lot of other places.

But if your ankles are that painful, you need to get the doctor to address them. First, get films to make sure that you don't have damage going on. Your doctor can also give you cortisone shots that should bring that swelling down.

Shoes are incredibly important. Make sure that you are wearing supportive ones with low heels.

You also can see a podiatrist or an Ortho surgeon for further evaluation.

I hope your pain eases soon and that you find the option right for you.

Have a Merry, pain-free Christmas.

Deanna39075.3792013889You can always buy a little slave boy to rub them whenever you want. Just make sure he's sexy.....Thank you for your support Deanna   you are a wealth of information for us here. My ankles do the same thing and I have to get off of them in order to lower the pain level.  I can wear no socks and the bedding hurts, lol.  I use pains meds which only cut the sharp edge but am going to start trying my rice bags soon.  I am hoping that Enbrel helps.  Hope you feel better soon.

I would ask your family doctor for testing as it could just be wear and tear, water retention or god forbig... RA.

If it is the only place swelling, it is possible that all you need is a water pill, but it could quite possibly be related to diabetes so i would ask the doctor for tests.

I had swollen ankles after I first started taking mtx. Eventually the swelling went down but the bakers cysts stayed with me even till now. They would get so large and then burst and my legs would be swollen with the fluid. So very painful. If you would look up bakers cyst on the mayo clinic website they have a good picture and info. Mine have finally gone down and so have lost the pain. What I did was cut back on the condroiton/glucosomine which is turned into synovial fluid, that is the fluid between the joints. After looking at the picture from the mayo clinic i realized that the cysts look just like overfill saks and I thin that I was over-producing synovial fluid. Are you taking condoiton/glucosomine? The best way to slow/stop Baker's Cysts is to stop using the joint. It sucks, I know.

Thank you to all of you for your posts.....I know that u are the ones who can understand this damn disease.

BEST WISHES FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.....
