I've been taking a low dose of prednisone for 2 years and am just now starting to notice that im getting the round face. I thought that only happened if you were on a high dose. My dose is 5mgs daily. Does anyone else have this problem and will I have to go completely off of it in order for my face to go back to normal? ive gained weight around my stomach is that a side effect from the prednisone too?

Hi Tara,
I was on a steady, daily diet of 5mg of Pred. for two years, with burst and tapers thrown in when I had a flare, taking up to 20 mg, then tapering back to 5mg over the coarse of a couple of weeks to get the flare under control. Over that two year period I gained about 100 pounds. Thankfully I was able to lose it all once I was off the Prednisone. Prednisone is notorious for weight gain. My current rheumy wanted to start me on it this time around, and when she asked me if there were any meds I was allergic to, I told her "Yes, prednisone."

I do not know if I am starting to get the "moon" face or not. My face was pretty round and fat looking to begin with. Even when I was weighing 118# my face looked like it was fat, and i was not even on prednisone...did not even know what prednisone was back then, but now I am a prednisone junkie...
I do not know if it will go away if get off of it.
