OOPS!!! i made a mistake again | Arthritis Information

Oh geez!! I made the mistake once again and ran out of my vicoden yesterday. I forgot to call my doctor again before I ran out. I called and left a message 2 times and I have heard nothing yet. Im in so much pain I can hardly concentrate at work today. The last time this happened I had to call her cell phone and she got upset because she was out shopping with her kids.  She was upset with me so much that she wrote me out a 2 months prescription so that I wouldnt bother her anymore with that. She later told me at my reg. checkup with her.

My question is. Has anyone ever done this before and if so what over the counter meds do you take until you can get your pain meds. Does anybody have any suggestions of what would be good to take til then?   Sorry if this doesnt make much sense just in alot of pain. But  I know it's my fault.

Well, vicodin has tylenol in it so maybe try taking the maxium amount of tylenol.  It might help take the edge off a bit but hopefuly your doc will call soon.  Sorry you are having such a crappy day.I find nsaids to be helpful with pain. If you are not already taking a prescription one, you might try a double dose of otc ibuprofen or naxproxen sodium (Motrin or Aleve brand names).

I don't take any major pain medications unless I'm at home because I'm just not comfortable with that. When I have pain I will take 4 Ibuprofren at a time. This honestly does help with pain (For me anyway). You can take 4 every 4 hours if nessesary.....but just make sure you have something on your stomach.

Hope you feel better soon.

When I get in that situation, or I have to be out and about, I usually can do it with 2 extra strength Tyelnol. A couple of times, I have used 3.

Don't feel bad about calling the heck out your doctor. It's her attitude that's wrong, not your request. I remember when you first told us about that.

Also, your pharmacy may be able to help you get it. That's what I do is just call in for a refill. The doctor's office staff takes care of it. You might do both call it into the pharmacy, it doesn't matter that it says no refills. And, call and leave a message that you are in terrible pain. Should get the job done.

tHANK YOU ALL SO MUCH i CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON YOU FOR ANSWERS

That's a good point. I always just call in my scrip and the pharmacy faxes my doctors office for the refill. Most pain meds do say "No Refills." They have to do that because of legal regulations. That doesn't mean you can't get more. Something to keep in mind since most people are not aware of this. A lot of times, it is also dictated by insurance companies. It's kind of live and learn.
