Worried...Lonely | Arthritis Information

HiEveryone-haven't posted in a while, but sitting here at home feeling lonely and worried, again, about my job.  I have been off work 2 days due to a cold and missed a day about 4 weeks ago too.  My work has talked to me several times about my absences. They know about the RA issue, but also need me to do m job. Sometimes I do well about not being absent too much.  But kind of on a downhil road right now.  Worried about consquences when I get to work tomorrow.

I get really lonely sometimes and staying away from work without contact from other people doesn't help!  Had a great christmas but lots of pain issues lately with my cold and then depression too.  I'm trying to rest so my cold gets better, but spend most of my time worring about work.  Ugh!  Anyone else get like this?

When I was working, that was my biggest stressor and my boss was pretty good about things. Still there's that fear that you are going to lose your job.

Tara, I wished you lived closer to some of the rest of us. Your life sounds hard and lonely. You talked about moving nearer your family before. Do you still consider that? You know if they do fire you for not being able to work then you can file for unemployment in your state. Other states (don't know if all of them do) will accept a transfer of unemployment from another state. That would help you get started as you look for a job that's less demanding. You might even get better services or have less problems getting around and shopping.

If it happens, then it should go into any future disability claim you might file and try and get them to write you a letter stating that it is your continued absences for illness that caused you to lose your job. They might not want to do that though because then they wouldn't be accommodating you for your disability.

You also would be able to take advantage of Vocational Rehab services to help you locate a more suitable position. I'm only saying these things to help you realize that even if the worst possibility happened, it might not be the worst thing. It might be a transformation to something better. That's what I'm holding out for.

Tara, you really aren't alone out there. I know it feels that way. That's one of the pleasures of working, being around other people. Well, maybe not all of them.

Hang in there. You know that just being sick can make one depressed. Feel better soon.

Thank you so much Deanna.  You're right, the fear of losing my job puts me in panic mode and I worry about "being on the street" and also about losing my kitties (strange, I know)  I would like to move closer to someone in my family.  They are all spread out now. and both my sisters are married, but not working due to....spinal/disc type issues, so financial issues and stuff.

I have to remember out the disability/unemployment options and thank you for reminding me.  Sometimes I just really need to know somone else understands and that alone helps give me courage to face whatever happens with work tomorrow!

Thanks again.

Oh my gosh Tara I have had the exact same medical problem!  I got a cold or virus from my teenager about Dec 17th.  The RA/FMS went into overdrive and yesterday my throat started hurting along with glands so made another doc appt. for tomorrow morning, lol.  I was wondering if I should skip a week of MTX so my immune system could help me to get over this thing.

Don't employers have to try to accomodate employees with disabilities?  I have not been able to work for a long time but I thought there were laws in place to prevent what is happening to you.

It can be so lonely so pm if you need to chat.

Take care,

Tara, it's a catch-22, isn't it?

Going to work makes you feel better because you're connected, productive, somewhat distracted from your troubles. But having to go to work when you're really too miserable to work, or staying home and worrying because you shouldn't be at work or need to be, takes all that away from you. And all the not knowing if the near future will be better or worse is just the worst!

Hang in there. We feel your loneliness, and understand.

Tara, I don't know if they can hassle you over being sick, especially if you
have a disability. You should look up if this is addressed with the ADA.
Your employer should not be able to harrass you for being sick, plus that
only stresses you out more, making you sicker for longer. I wonder how
many employers really understand this disease. Do they know what it is all
about? Do they understand that it is an immune system disease, not just
something that old people get? I think some of our employers need some
education about this disease.Hope you feel better soon Sweetie....hang in there.
