Has anyone started on the new infusion medication Orencia?  If so, how do you like it?  I'm suppose to start it this month after my blood work, chest xrays and TB test returns ok but I'm nervous about it.  Thanks for any input.

I started Orencia in Aug. 2006.  I have been very pleased with the results.  The transition from Humira to the Orencia required some extra prednisone, but after the "loading dose" period I was able to cut back the prednisone.  My morning achs are much better.  My hands have been great.  I've only had one flare.  It was shorter and less intense than usual.  So, overall I'd say the stuff works.  I still have to be careful not to over do.  Stay off the caffine at least one day ahead and drink lots of water if they have trouble getting the IV started.  Many RA meds give you uncooperative veins.

My doctor wants me to consider Orencia. He's given me two more to look at. Today he's taken me off Humira due to tingling and a numbness type feeling in my leg....arm and hands.

I'm devestated to be taken off Humira because it has worked well for the past two years.

I'm worried about what to expect. He's asked me to come back in 4 to 6 weeks to see if taken me off the HUmira stops the other problems. If so and I am having problems without it I'm due to start either this or maybe Rituiam? (MIght have that wrong....I don't have the pamplet in front of me. ) I know very little about either of these meds....but I remember all too well what it's like without Humira.

Any info you guys have would be helpful.

Lovie,

I had the option of Orencia or Rituxan and I chose Rituxan.  After reading the material it seemed the best for me.  But as you well know, we all react differently to these drugs.

I am just about ready for my 2nd round as it has been about 6 months.  I probably had 3 good months out of it.  I am hopeful that the second round will work even better.  Right now I feel like it is definetly wearing off.

Good luck w/your decision, and I hope it makes a difference for you.  Sure hope the tingling and numbness go away soon.

Thanks Crispy. I'm not sure exactly what I'll do yet. I'm leaning toward Rituxan due to the fact that the infusion is only done a couple times a year verses every 4 weeks. That's a lot and I'd have to travel 45 mintes there and take at least a half day off of work. I don't like that idea.

We'll see what happens at the end of 6 weeks. Maybe I'm be doing so well I won't need it at all
