Hair Loss with Plaquenil? | Arthritis Information

Hi all, I have been taking 400 mg of Plaquenil a day for about 6 months. My hair has always been on the thin side, but it is thinner than usual , and is coming out more than I think it should be. I am a 22 year career hair stylist,(mostly retired now due to health etc.) but I know this is more than normal shedding. I am concerned, I don't have much hair to spare! Also I am finding mixed info as to whether it can cause hairloss.
What about the other drugs? IF I have to start them in the future, (god forbid, and I claim not) , but should I look for a wig???
Thank You,
Jena
I take and recommend Folic Acid to supplement.  You can get an Rx for the amount needed or get it at Walmart and take at least 1 ml per day.  It really helped my hair thinning and loss.Jena, I'm having the same problem. I have very fine thin hair. I started Plaq
in September and mine is also falling out.. It is to the point where I can see
my scalp in places. Thanks Bonny, I am going to try that, hoping it will help.
I kind of also feel that this autoimmine disease process can in itself be a
source of hair thinning and loss. I agree lorster.  A friend of mine with RA and not taking any DMARD's, biologics etc. tried the Folic Acid with great results!yes, it can cause your hair to fall out.  Folic acid may help.  However, it is usually Rx'd with MTX, because MTX depletes folic acid in the body and not enough folic acid can also cause hair loss.  Taking probably won't hurt you.  Might want to add biotin to the vitamin roster also.I have heard from various sources that taking Vitamin B is not good for
people with RA. folic acid is Vit B. Have you heard of this before? That is
why it is not recommended that we take OC's like the one that teacher
invented...lol...I cannot think of the name but it has lots of Vit B and I was
told to stay away from it. Airborne....that is the name. It is full of vit B.
