Can someone tell me why in the morning I can not raise my arms the muscles in my arms and shoulders hurt so bad they feel like the muscles are not attached to my shoulders. Has any body ever had this. I just don't understand. The pain is so bad I just don't know what to do. I told both my doctors and all they say it your RA. It seems like my arms are so weak. I am going back to work in 2 days I have been off a month. I think in feb they are going to try me on enbrel if my insurance will pay for it.

Another quick note. I noticed you said they're considering starting you oh Enbrel. It's very common to take MTX and Enbrel together. I don't know why they don't go ahead and start the MTX. It's inexpensive and wouldn't be an issue with your insurance. You might ask.

Agree with Alan on all points. But have they done any films or considered PT? You can have damage going on or the start of it and they could keep it from happening. PT will help you get more motion out of your arms.
In the meantime, lather yourself in one of those non-stinky sports cremes. It really does help.
With pain as bad as yours, why aren't they at least considering doing a cortisone shot? They are not giving enough attention to this and just waiting until Enbrel kicks in is not a good answer. You might progress in the meantime and it is already adversely affecting you and they should be more aggressive in treating you. You need to tell them that. Do not settle for less. They have options that they are not offering you.
I'm sorry you are hurting so much. I know how bad it can be and it doesn't have to be that way. Prednisone should make it better, not worse.
I was on MTX Pill & Injection. My body had really bad side affects so they had to stop the same with Arava. I only hope enbrel will help me alone. About a hour ago for some reason I had serve pain in my right side and chest pain. I jumped up and took a chewable pill for gas stomach. It now settle down thank god I was getting worried cuz my hubby just left and would be gone late tonight. I have been on 10mg of predisone sense august. I do get short my breath at times. I really hate for night to come cuzz I know in the morning it is pure h-ll for me until about 11:00am. Thanks for all the help JoanOh oh oh oh!!! Do you have GERD??? I have it, and thats what happens to me! I get chest pains and shortness of breath, and my shoulders hurt all the way through into my back. Seriously, I would have NEVER made the connection if my hunny hadn't already gone through the same thing. I don't even feel "heartburny" when that happens either. But you don't have to, that's the sneaky thing about GERD. Ask your doc. You never know.Oh and just to add - the worst times of day for me and my tummy are right when I wake up, and if I eat too much before bed. Also, pred. can cause shortness of breath. There's so much to remember with this disease. Urgh. Oh and, (see here's another one..lol) common associations with RA are things such as GERD and IBS so it's quite likely that you may have it. That may be all of your symptoms, or just some of them. But it's worth looking into.I had surgery years back for gerd. I had many problems with stmoach. So that got fixed years ago plus I have to take meds for it the rest of my life. I wish it was it. Right now I have so many problems with my shoulders unable to lift up in the morning. They feel like I strained them and they hurt really bad and I mean bad. I also feel hurt in my elbows to. I think my shoulders feel like the muscles are not attached to the shoulder if thar makes any sense.
