nausea from pain? | Arthritis Information

I've been in a flare since being diagnosed and not able to get the RA under control. I'm seeing a 2nd rheumatologist and wondering if he'll change treatment (plaquenil and mobic). The past 2 days I've woke up with pain in my entire body to the point it makes me feel nauseous. Is that a common RA thing? How do you get rid of it???? Is there any kind of immediate relief? Plaquenil can take up to 3 months and I'm not even through my first month yet. Arrggh! Love, Juliah

I don't really have any great advice for you Juliahh; but I did want to say I hope you're feeling better soon. You've really been through a lot.

Maybe ask for a short coarse of predisone while you're waiting on the Plaquneil to be effective? Have you already tried that?

Shot of cortisone might be helpful as well.

I'll pray for your comfort Sweetie. I know how misrable you feel right now. Try to get a little something in your stomach...it might help the nausea.

Juliah,

Sorry to hear that you are feeling cruddy!  I know what you mean about the nausea from pain. When I'm in a flare the first thing I feel in the morning is the pain all over.  I would do what Lovie said and maybe ask for a short course of prednisone.  They can do a "dose pack" which starts you at a high dose and then tapers off within 7-10 days.
Try eating a few crackers or drinking ginger ale (just like with morning sickness) to combat the nausea.
Feel better soon!
jULIAH--AGREE WITH OTHERS.  jUST GOT OFF A BAD FLARE AND THE DOSE PACK GOT ME BACK ON MY FEET PLUS RESUMING A LOW LOSE OF PREDNISONE DAILY.  HOPE YOUR FEELING BETTER REALLY SOON!

Juliah,

I wake up feeling like every bone in my body is broken, but I guess I've never felt nausea from it.  I just wake up crying.  I know these meds can be life-savers, but the hard part is waiting so long for them to be effective.

If it were me, I'd call the doc and see if there's something that will help.  Nausea is one thing I can't tolerate.

I do hope you're feeling better very soon.  You've had so much to deal with lately.  You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Yea I understand, when I flare I also feel nausea when im moving around. Really weird. By any chance are you not moving around much? Because when I started up again its when I would feel it then it calmed down a bit. I hope you feel better hun.  When my pain is severe, I feel nauseous.  I think it's a response to the pain itself and not the disease making me nauseous, if that makes any sense.
