Hello-
I am scheduled for a hemiarthroplasty at the end of this month for my left shoulder. Has anyone had experience with this and what should I expect? This will be my 13th surgery between both of my shoulders. I have obviously thrown in the towel and I need pain relief!
Thanks in advance, Sheryl Yee-oow! Thirteen. OK, you got me beat. I haven't had shoulder surgery yet. My knees and elbows are first in line. I did read a thread on shoulder replacement on the arthritis.org site: http://www.arthritis.org/communitiesnew/Forum/replymsg.aspx? msgid=144838&status=none&msggroupid=1005&view=ye s (You've probably seen it already. I figured I'd post it just in case.) Hang in there - there's lots of people on this forum much more informative than me! Good luck and welcome . . .
All I can say is you must be motivated to keep on top of things. My shoulder was completely frozen so things were more difficult. You really have to keep stretching and keep the muscles in good shape.I go to a type of massage were they break up scar tissue and stretch me, quite painfull but works. You will have reduced range of motion but your pain will be down. I went from having morphine, 50-100mg a day to zero.I still have pain but its more from sharp movements and hitting my shoulder wrong, overall its great.Don't do things like wood cutting, sawing or long overhead work like painting. I still work out and ride my motorcycle so I'm happy! If you need to talk PM me and I'll give you my work number, I'm in Toronto.
