Nuclear Bone Scan and Surgery | Arthritis Information

I thought that they were just doing another, more intense shoulder MRI today. Turns out it is a nuclear bone scan. I can't find anything on the web about using a bone scan as a preop test for shoulder surgery. It states over and over again about being a test for metasized cancer. I've had more than one bone lesion show up in my shoulder and knee. Plus the bone marrow problems.

Has anyone else had a bone scan before shoulder or knee surgery?

Also, they asked if I had problems with my sinuses because they were showing a lot of inflammation. I have a scary history of this with the projective bleeding and concern over Wegener's. Then, they've taken me off the MTX.

Tell me I am just being paranoid. Yes, left a message for Rheumy already. May have to make an appointment with Primary. Fatigue is the worst I've ever had. And, I am running a fever.

A friend of mine had a nuke scan after she took a tumble off her front porch and broke both of her arms.

This website mentions stress fractures, infection and any unusual bone pain as common indications for nuke scans. http://www.mgh.org/nuclear/bone.html

This is a good site too. http://www.brighamandwomens.org/nuclearmedicine/patient/bone .aspx

I think your Docs may just want to get a clear view of what they're dealing with - before the surgery.
