jonesin for mtx????? | Arthritis Information

Okay this is totally wierd, but what about this disease isnt.....

I take my mtx on Sunday evening... Have two really crappy days, a couple of so so days and two pretty decent days.... Then Sunday morning rolls around and I am a freaking basket case. Its worse than being pregnant. I cry at the drop of a hat and then laugh hysterically the next minute. I get the shakes and cannot look at food....Keep in mind, this is all BEFORE  I take the mtx.

At first I thought it was coincidence, but I started keeping a log and every Sunday its the same. It's not a head game, I really try to keep an even keel and be up, but it is way beyond my controll.

Has this happpened to anyone else? And should I be concerned or is it one more thing I have to live with?

thanks

Laura T, mtx junkie in IL

I'm not on MTX now. I used to take Saturday nights. By Saturday evening, I would be extremely exhausted. Took it and on Sunday would have to collapse and sleep part of the day. It was as regular as clock work.

I got to where I would make plans for Saturday morning, but never for the rest of the weekend. If I felt up to doing more, it was bonus, icing on the cake.

Prednisone is the one that makes me cry so much. If I'm run down, definitely. I suspect that is what is happening, your body has run out of its fix and letting you know about it.

Talk to your doctor about it next time you go in. Maybe upping your folic acid or changing your MTX would make a difference. Other than that, I think you have to live with it.

Laura,

Those sound like signs of anxiety/depression before taking the mtx.  The shaking, food aversion, want to cry then laugh....Do you have a history of anxiety/depression???  Just a thought.

Laura,

At this point, I do think I am going crazy. HOwever, there isn't a history of depression or anxiety in my family. If it were more than one day a week, or if my really nasty side effects weren't under controll, I would agree with you. My hubby jokingly threw the whole "jonesing" thing out there, and I started thinking that yeah, maybe he's on to something....but mtx??? Now they are doubling my dose, so maybe the symptoms will go away.... or maybe I will just install my own private padded room!!!!

This has happened to me as well. Ispace the MTX over a 24 hr period. end of problem
