What Are The Signs and Symptoms of Lupus?

From the National Institute of Health What Are The Signs and Symptoms of Lupus?

Lupus may be hard to diagnose. It’s often mistaken for other diseases. For this reason, lupus has been called the “great imitator.” The signs of lupus differ from person to person. Some people have just a few signs; others have more.

Common signs of lupus are:

Red rash or color change on the face, often in the shape of a butterfly across the nose and cheeks
Painful or swollen joints
Unexplained fever
Chest pain with deep breathing
Swollen glands
Extreme fatigue (feeling tired all the time)
Unusual hair loss (mainly on the scalp)
Pale or purple fingers or toes from cold or stress
Sensitivity to the sun
Low blood count
Depression, trouble thinking, and/or memory problems

Other signs are mouth sores, unexplained seizures (convulsions), “seeing things” (hallucinations), repeated miscarriages, and unexplained kidney problems.

I had many symptoms of Lupus in my 20's (45 now) and was just recently diagnosed with RA.

I hope this helps a little

Again welcome,

For the record I was suspected of having Lupus early on as well. Many of us were, like Pam said. I was dianosed with RA a little over 11 years ago. Symptoms seem to be somewhat simular.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Maggie!

I'm new to this board, actually the first time posting here. I have Lupus and RA. One of the best places to go to look up symptoms is on the LFA site, "Lupus Foundation of America" everything on the Website is most current information.

I hope were allowed to post reliable links here. You very well may be having a reaction but the fever is concerning. I would call your doctor and let him/her know of your concerns. He may want to run a Lupus panel, thats a start. Make sure and have your records sent to your doctor or have them with you. Start trying to keep a journal of your symptoms. I hope you get some answers very soon as to whats going on.

Yellow Rose; thanks for sharing the link. We've recently had the admin set up a special section for links such as this for future reference. Please look for this section on the first page "Useful Links" (something like that) and repost this there....along with any other Lupus topics you might have.

This section is kind of like a storage for all the resources we are likely to refer to in the future. And as we have more Lupus folks here we'll point them in the direction of those links for more information.

Thanks Rose....our board has been lacking the knowledge you bring. We sure are glad you are here!!

Lovie
