High ESR not matched... | Arthritis Information

Anyone with knowledge on this one? For the past several visits my rheumy has commented on high ESR (over one hundred) not matched by near normal CRP readings. Also, clinical examination shows the RA is currently being kept at bay.

He talks about paraproteins but tests show they're O.K. He also feels "there is no clear infection".

I understand that blood test results are basically a guide only and one can have high or low ESR and/or CRP results with varying degrees of inflamation. But to have continuing high ESR with almost normal CRP on a long-term basis presents a puzzle. Anyone with any experience of this? Ta, Des.

Dessie, what were your blood levels at for anemia? That high of sed rate is definitely concerning. It shows that you've got some kind of major inflammation going on in your body. Your doctor needs to investigate the cause of that. If he doesn't, he's being negilent.Just the opposite High then normal Crp and a sed rate of 7 last time????

Thanks for the replies.

Deanna, my family doc has been monitoring the anmenia for some time, there is a minor problem there but it's a grey area. Had another blood test this morning. You may be onto something.

BTW, did you ever solve your voice recognition problem? I notice that Roxy is using the Dragon programme. See her post on this. Best wishes admist all your problems - Des.

OOps -it was kd-darkangel, not Roxy.

Dessy, it's a little too familar to my last blood results. All my bloodwork showed fine except for anemia. That's when the doc said I had bone marrow damaged and referred me to a Hematologist. I think you should ask for that. They had to take me off the MTX.

Hope your problem is not the same but it seems several people have had to take this step. Don't let them gloss over this.
