Anterior approach to THR | Arthritis Information

Recently, my rheumatologist told me that I'm going to need bi-lateral hip replacement surgery soon.  She left the option on which area ortho-surgeon I wanted to see.  I found one that is new to the area and performs this surgery by using the anterior approach(from the front) which allows better access and faster healing.  Has anyone here had this surgery performed this way?   Are there any ways to look into the surgeons history, ie., malpractice lawsuits, education, patient satisfaction with treatment, etc?

Thanks

Bob

Hello Bob - I had a total hip replacement in Sept.  I did not have the
new minimal procedure.  My surgeon feels he makes that decision in the OR.  Every patient is different -- he doesn't know which type of prothesis he is going to use either until he gets in there.  My surgery was very successful and I recovered very nicely.  The recuperation is just lengthy.  I educated myself on everything and did what the doctors told me to do because I have heard some horror stories about people not doing such and dislocating the hip.  If I can answer any other questions for you please e-mail me.  J
