Hello Everyone!

I am having my second SSD hearing on Feb 7th and was wondering if anyone with through this having osteoarthritis in the hips?  I have it moderate in my left and mild in my right.  I also have degenrate disc disease, along with sciaitica problems in my left leg, and disc problems. I am goin next tues to be tested for carparal tunnel in my right hand.  Unforuntately I am right handed, lol!  I had the first one about 2 yrs ago and won a full year of payment and the judge told me to reapply because he knew something was deffinately wrong but didnt have a full diagnosis at the time.  I am so scared and confused.  I havent worked in years.

Have A Good Day

Nope, I am waiting for an "award of record" decision right now and if the ALJ denies I will go to my first hearing.  Do you have an attorney?  I highly recommend it to help you.

Definitely get the attorney. I hate to say this, but they could look at your condition as not severe enough not to be able to do some kind of work. That doesn't mean that I don't think it is severe enough. But they have all these nasty rules and a lazy system that isn't going to even read all your medical evidence.

Please get the lawyer. You are too far in the process to lose ground now.

Hello...thank you for the replies!! Yes, I have an attorney.  I had one on my first case too!  This system and the rules are terrible!! What kind of work do they think a person can do that cant sit, stand, walk etc for 15 minutes at a time.  Gosh I really think they need to look at there guidelines. They really dont care what kind of pain you are in that is for sure!!

Lisa, I too have OA in my hips.  My right hip is at the severe stage, left is moderate.  I also have degenerative disk, with 4 compressed discs.  Now I have it in my knees and ankles also.  It never even occurred to me to apply for disability, though.  You have peaked my interest, I must say.  Although I may already be out of luck, since I have not been working full time for years.  I have worked part time and been a mom since 1984 - I don't regret that a bit, but when it comes to Social Security my income over the years has been very small.

I definitely know what you're talking about with limited options for work.   Who is going to hire me - unable to climb stairs, walk any distance, dragging a bad leg and waddling into an interview!  It is getting so difficult.

Any way, I guess I figured that their position would be that I could get a hip and or knee replacements and then be able to work.  Has that ever been raised as an issue?

Lisa,

Actually, I do think that they have to consider how much pain you are in, especially if you are on pain killers that affect your ability to drive or think. I'm glad you have the attorney.

If you have a lot of pain and that's not been addressed in your case up to now, make sure it is added. I know that if I took as much painkillers as they are willing to prescribe for me that I could not function at all.

I hope your case goes well. Please keep us updated on your progress and what you learn as it seems to be a big mystery how they handle these things. Also, just because I want to see you win.

Thanks for the replies!! Yes I am on Vicodin for pain along with other meds.  I get so scared being on it though because there is so much I hear about addiction to it.  I have been on it for awhile though and it does help somewhat for the pain.  I will deffinately keep you up dated!!

Thanks Again

Lisa
