Infection worsening | Arthritis Information

The sinus infection is not improving. It is going into my lungs. This is really dangerous for me as I have a history of lung and heart problems. Last time that I got Bronchitis, it took months to recover.

So absolutely frustrated. I am forbidding myself phone calls to agencies. But I am so sick and cannot seem to rest. All this stuff just plagues my mind.

Why can't I get some help from any of these damn people whose actual job is technically supposed to be to help me? Fighting them is really hurting my body.

what antibiotic are you takinf for the infection? Can't you call your GP and tell them it's not working? Surely they know your history and can call you in something else.

When I had bronchitis so bad last year it took three presciptions and eventually a round of predisone to get rid of it.

You have seen the doctor haven't you?

Had a bone scan done on Monday which revealed the sinus infection. Saw the primary on Tuesday. He gave me samples of Levaquin (my insurance won't pay for it). Called the doc this morning to say it's not working. Waiting for a call back. And I'm already on 12.5 prednisone daily. Used inhaler. Chest hurts bad.

So, I did all the things I can do for now. If the breathing gets worse, I'll either call 911 or go to ER.

This is why I am always harping on calling the doc if someone gets an infection. It can get bad so quickly. And, I think I've had this a couple of weeks without knowing it.

Thanks, Lovie, for making sure I'm am doing all the things I'm supposed to. Resting is the hardest thing for me to do.

Deanna I am fighting the same sinus infection since Dec 17th and using 875mg Augmenten with minimal results.  Doc said it would take a long time and I had to skip my MTX this week to help things out.

I am taking Mucinex (generic at Walmart) to keep the sinus fluid moving which keeps the severe pain down and do you have a cool humidifier?  If so keep that running right next to you which helps the chest and bronchail tubes.  Your bronchial tubes swell from infection and this can ease the tightness.

Do you take a DMARD or a biologic?  Ask your doc about skipping a week to let your immune system assist in fighting the infection.

That is about all I know to do along with praying.  Your doc will hopefully call back soon.

Deanna,  YOU KNOW how important it is for you to take care of this.  NO procrastinating and no taking care of others.  Take care of YOU.  DO YOU HEAR ME ????????????Deanna go to the drs or get to that er before it get worse PLEASE!!!  meme

This old remedy is the latest thing for ENT's - worked with a girl whos sister is a brand new ENT doc. Helped me and hubby clear up a lingering, chronic infection in a week. I had crap draining down back of throat for 6 months making me cough. I had been using inhaled steriods for bronitis for last 3 of 6 months. On antibiotics repeatedly. It was like a miracil to stop all that coughing. My ribs felt like they were broken and so did that little 'butterfly' joint up by collar bones.

Bonny, I've been taken off the MTX and the biologics permanently. And, they gave me Mucinex. I can't tell that helps at all. Unfortunately, I don't have a humidifier any more. My cranky, old hamster escaped and crawled inside, committing suicide by humidifier. I haven't replace it yet. I'll have to make a special trip to get one. But it should help, you're right.

Roxy, don't yell at me....I'm trying, I'm trying.

Meme, if I get worse symptoms I will head to the ER. I got the call back from the doctor and got the pat answer give it a couple of days to work. I told them I wasn't satisfied with that answer, not with my history. They're going to talk to the doctor again. You could tell they though I was being unreasonable. But I don't think I am. This was that Nurse Practioner again. He's useless. You might as well as a stranger on the street.

I have found most Nurse Practioners extremely good at their jobs. Not this one. He's just plain lazy and ignorant. The doctor is much better.

But I promise to head to ER if the symptoms get worse. I asked at least for extra inhalers. I've had this happen enough times that I know the protocol by heart. The nurse to called me back was unrelenting in that I just needed to wait it out. I said I've been to a Pulmonologist before regarding these symptoms. They are clueless.

I know. I know. It's and HMO, what do they know? How to kill you for an economic price.

Run your shower to get some humidity in the air. You are are too sick to run out for a humidifier. Even a steaming bowl of water and towel over your head helps...moisten stuff up.

Can your daughter come help you?

Can you find someone else to go get the humidifier?

I am so sorry you are suffering like this.  You have really had a run of bad luck lately.

I will be praying for you!  Both your health and the political issues!

Deanna I am going to try washing my sinuses like Marian suggested since nothing else is working.  I am so tired of the headache.

I can't believe that since you cannot even take the RA meds you were turned down for disability!  Those people are nuts!

I also tried Marian's suggestion. Thanks so much. I do feel better today although quite tired.

I found out what to do next on my SS. I have to file an appeal. In that, I am able to ask for a face-to-face review. So, this time someone can't just gloss over the paperwork.

Also, I can update all my conditions, my doctors, meds, etc. And, my declining function. I believe that this will help considerably.

I have to do the update immediately or I lose all my foods stamps, medical as wells as the General Assistance. Then, it will fall back into the lawyer's hands.

One important thing for anyone doing their own appeal. The lawyer said to take it down to my local SS office and get it date stamped.

My neurologist couldn't believe that they denied me either. I don't get it.

Why won't they pay for Levequin? Do you not have RX coverage or do
they refuse to pay for that drug? The insurance company won't pay for it because it is very expensive.

Deanna,

I hope your better today. I'm worried about you.

Hugs and prayers

But I had a terrible night because I'm having side of effects from the Levaquin. I noticed someone else had posted that this medication had some nasty side effects. My stomach started hurting really bad so I looked up the side effects. There were 15 pages of side effects including: stomach pain, peripherial neuropathy, vasculitis, joint pain. It doesn't sound like the kind of medicine that a doctor should give with the kinds of problems I have. I hate that NP. He is such an idiot.

But the pain is better this morning. So, I am going to try one more dose. If it happens again, I'll get in touch with a real doctor and see what to do. I don't want to stop it because I do feel like it is helping the infection which I know is serious.

Let us know what happens De.  I read up on all drugs I take EXCEPT when they inject it in me when I don't know it.  Reminds me of a scene from Mission Impossible.  Deanna, I hope you recover from this soon. You're right. It sounds as though you should never have been prescribed this medicine. Doctors can be idiots - or saviors, depending. You've had the idiot. It's time for the savior. deanna,

It sounds like a horrible drug to give anybody with RA.

Deanna-I tend to suffere continually with sinus infections.  About every 2 months and they last forever.  This last time I went to my GP he gave me a new antibiotic called Avelox (something like that.)  I ha never taken it before.  But I really think is is actually working so much better than the z-packs, augmenten and others.  Also, I just started using the Ziacam nasel swabs (they have a homeopathic gel on them).  They seem to be really helping aso.

And I agree that hot showers with somme time o eculyptis salts or something of boiling water on the stove with some tiype of mentho salts and a towel over my head.  Really helps with some short term relief.  Sinus infections are the worse.  I hope you are feeling better soon.

Deanna - I have not had a problem taking Levaquin but for me it didn't get the sinus infection.  I think that just maybe the 875 Augmenten might have done it but had to call doc this morning for Diflucan, lol.

Hope you are now feeling better.

I still feel awful, but I can't tell if it's from the infection or the anemia. Except for headaches, I can't tell any difference in my sinuses. Since I had no real symptoms to begin with, how am I supposed to know when I'm better? I'm not sure the doctor can even answer that when I see him in a couple of weeks.

But all the suggestions and the commiseration is wonderful. Thanks for worrying about me.

Hugs--hope you feel better soon!!  I have never been cursed with a sinus infection so I have no real advice!Hugs work. I like those.
