pilondial cyst | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone! I have been down and out in severe pain with a cyst on my tailbone. I haven't sleep for more than an  hour at a time because of the pain on my tailbone and in my hips. Today is the first time I have been able to sit up for more than a minute. Has anyone ever had one of these monsters on their butt? Sounds gross and is it ever! I am having surgery on Feb 1st and now am on antibiotics. So that means no more Humira for awhile. I hope you guys have had a better week than I had last week!

Take care

I just read up on this. I'd never heard of it. How odd! Do they have any idea why you got it? It seems like such a RANDOM thing to get! Hope you get well soon!I think it is caused by an infected hair follicle deep inside. It's a bacterial infection. I was wondering if anyone else suffered with it who had RA?  It's really gonna be a fun six weeks after the surgery. They are going to cut me to the tailbone and leave it open to drain all the infection out. Somebody just shoot me and put me out of my misery.!!

Yikes!!!! You must have it bad then! The site I was reading said they can usually just lance it, quick and simple. Eeeeeekkk! :( I'm SO sorry hun!!

My b/f had a cyst in his intestines (he has crohn's, so this wasn't new to us) and they had to access it from around his tailbone. Poor thing! It was horrible, they let it drain just like what you're talking about too! Go for the GOOD pain meds! Do yourself a favor! LoL You'll be alright. :) The good part was, in about a day and a half, he couldn't feel much of it anymore. So it heals quickly. Good luck!!!

Yeap, I am the butt of many lame jokes from family and friends. LOL

I was just reading on webmd about it what site did u ck out?

Was the first Google hit I got. :)

i hope all goes well with your surgery and recovery. be encouraged and take care of yourselfThanks alot you guys. I will definitely make sure they give me the "good drugs"> It sounds like a long six weeks.I had one removed many years ago but they would pack it with iodine strips so it would heal from the inside out.  It was no fun but I never had another one.  Take care and it will be over soon.My sweet daughter had one.  They say she will eventually have to have surgery.  She is so brave with the pain.  It looks SOOOOOOOO painful.  She was on antibiotics and she is better.  My heart goes out to you.  I thought when  I saw hers, I would not be able to deal with that

I had one!  I got it a week after my first knee replacement, while I was still in the hospital.  But no-one knew what the problem was at the time so I spent the next week at home in agony till I went to physio.  The physio took one look and told me what it was, I phoned my GP, he came to the house and called the surgeon who I went to see a couple of hours later.  He booked me in that night and did the surgery.

I looked a true gimp.  I was on crutches and couldn't walk of course with my new knee, and couldn't sit or lie down properly because of the pilonidal abscess.  The did the surgery that night and put me  on IV antibiotics for 5 days.  When I got home I had the district nurse come every day for 3 weeks to pack the hole so it would heal from the inside out.  After it had healed completely (about 12 weeks) I had to go back for more surgery to excise the whole cyst as the infection had been so bad they had only been able to open and drain it the first time.  That time they sewed it up and I had a 4-5 inch incision right down my butt crack.  Seriously NOT attractive.

It is a fairly common problem among young guys and truckers (go figure) due to them sitting on their butts a lot of the time.  At least I knew what it was as the first surgical patient I had in my nursing training had a pilonidal cyst.

It makes for a VERY uncomfortable few weeks post op, but it does get rid of it forever.

Cheers,

Pam

Very nasty, very painful, very embarressing.

Gees I'm sorry.

I hope it doesn't take me 12 weeks to recover. I am going on the 31st to see  the surge ron before the surgery and have lots of questions. I am so dreading this!!! My hips from the ra have been giving me trouble for over a month and I have spent lots of time on my back because of the hip pain now no matter what I do I cannot get comfortable.

If they can clear up the infection beforehand and just have to excise the cyst it shouldn't take so long.  It was just that I had to have it done as an emergency thing then fixed up properly later on.

Still, it's a reall pain in the A$$ !!!!!

I had this done many many years ago but what they did at the time was meant to be fairly radical surgery but it was so long ago it cant be radical any longer.   The surgeon did a skin graft, from my hip from memory, I walked around with a drain in for about a week but I had absolutely no pain. I think the op was called something starting with Z & looked like the Z that Zorro used to do with his sword in comics when I was a child! Fortunately it is not in an obvious place. I had to sit on a rubber ring for a week or so as well - all fairly undignified but painless & no problem at all.   Ask your surgeon if he is familiar with this.

Cindee, I hope it's over quickly and as painless as possible. I wouldn't want to be dealing with that. You'd better post after you get it done so we can have an update. Sometimes people forget to do that and we are left wondering, did they live or not? Which, of course, you'll live through this. But why not share about the pain and misery.

Really do hope this is over soon.

Good evening.......I am feeling so much better the last couple of days with my cyst and RA. I am actually sitting in my recliner again and using the laptop!! WooHOOOO!!! LOL

I went today and got my pre op blood work done. I have to go off my Relafen on Sunday and I am kinda of worried that my pain and stiffness may come back. I also had to skip my 4th Humira shot on the 19th and will not be getting them for awhile until I heal. My cyst seems to be drying up some which I think is good. Maybe the surgery won't be so intense. I'll will definitely let you guys know. I am stocked up on food, meds, and early next week I am going to check books out from the library and rent a bunch of movies.

I'm sure I will have lots of pain and misery to share.....
