bright purple cast | Arthritis Information

Its official, its a bright purple arm cast. I wanted red but they didn't carry red cast material.

I had arthritis at the base of my lt thumb with complete dislocation at the basilar thumb joint. Also quite severe hyperextension of the next thumb joint. Both problems should be fixed, I anticipate good results. 1 1/2yrs ago I had the rt thumb basilar joint taken care of with good results. I didn't have the hyperextension of the next joint taken care of then, so now I'm going to have it fused in the Fall. Not fusing that joint at the time of the first surgery was a big mistake. The surgeon changed his mind, not me.

So, I'm back to 2 finger typing for awhile. It really sucks.

Thanks for the update Barb; I've been concerned about your progess. I'm so glad to hear it's going well.

Dyna; I got a couple questions for you about this surgery.  I know I may need it in the future, what I want to know is how does it feel after the surgury and recovery is all done.  Are you able to say still do crafts, daily chores, etc.  I am one of these people who is constantly working with my hands and the rd has talked about me possibly having to have this surgeryand I would still want to be able to do what I do now.  I know it sounds silly but I am just curious.  xoxox meme

I AM SO GLAD THINGS WENT WELL!!!!!

So glad everything went well...Nice to see you back with us!!  Sorry you didn't get the red cast but hey... purple is cool.

Peace & Love...Neasy

Hey Barb!  It's good to have you back.  I'm glad the surgery went well.  Hope the recovery goes well too.

Hi Barb,

good to see you here.  I've been hoping all is well.  We have missed

you around here!

Hope you continue to feel better each day

I'll let you know how the recovery goes. I too want to be able to do cross stitch, quilting and some woodcrafts. I made that clear to the hand doctor before surgery. I anticipate being pain free, losing some strength, but keeping dexterity. I understand it will not function like a normal thumb but will still function well.

BarbI hope you recover well hun *hugs*
