If you are good at typing, there are some good opportunities for medical transcription, but you will need knowledge of medical terms.  There are classes available for medical transcription in most states if you don't know the terminology.  I have a cousin who has been very successful doing this.

I am fortunate that a lot of my job as part-time admin. assistant can be done at home.  You can always contact a potential employer and ask if they would be open to the idea of telecommunting.

I also know someone who works at home as a mortage broker, so if you have a background in banking or finance that would be a good avenue to pursue.

Good luck to you, I'm sure there are many more ideas out there.

thanks Lynk!!! i saved them in my favorites so now when i see a work from home advertisment i can reference back :) YAY

hillhoney- i dont have any documented medical background, i mean i have had plenty of doctor visits and hospital visits. but nothing for work. im still trying to get into a dental/doctors office as a receptionist. to work my way to the top :) maybe the dentist who knows :) and right now classes for anything are way out of the picture.. medical bills, baby, RA bills, goodness its alll adding up :(

I know that one way to get work is to go to a temp agency like Kelly girls, etc. The other area that might work with your background is a travel agency (and I do believe a lot of them have work at home opportunities) or hotels where they have guest services.

Temp agencies can be really good ways to break into a good office job with eventually having benefits. Bigger companies have to provide you benefits after a certain time which varies per company. You might also check out if you can substitute teach.

Also, do ask your family and friends for any opportunities they might know about.

ALOT OF THEM ARE scams. Don't waist a bunsh of money on those things. Anything you have to send in money for before you actually know all the facts is a scam. That's a sure sign you don't want it....if they won't tell you ALL the facts up front.

There are opprotunities out there you just have to know where to look. I actually was looking at a web site yesterday because I got an email from one. Something about work at home Mom's or something like that. They researched tons of work at home programs and give you the low down on the ones that are rip offs and the ones that are actually real opprotunities for people that are willing to work it.

None of them are "Easy Money" but there are real jobs out there. Year ago I knew a lady that did Medical Transciptions for a local hospital from home. It allowed her to be home with her kids....but she pretty much had to be on the computer at certain times and it was  alot of work. A little training is required with a lot of these types of jobs but for folks in our conditions facing an uncertain future that might not be a bad idea.

Tomorrow when I'm at the office I'll see if I can pull that site up again and I'll pass it onto you and see what you can research from that.

By all means if anyone has ideas please share them. Like I said; For folks in our conditions this is something that could be of interest to us all. If not now.....one day.

Good Luck!

I do bookkeeping and payroll at home for a non-profit organization.  Do you have any bookkeeping experience?  Many small businesses will hire work at home since we generally cost less working off of a contract rather than a full benefit receiving employee.

whew sorry its been awhile.. all of a sudden i felt so good and wanted to be out playing with my dog while it lasted..

thank you lovie that would be great!!!

bonny i was a flight attendant and then i worked for t-mobile. im not really sure what bookkeeping consists of? i am a really quick learner though so im sure i could pick it up.

itsmeepoo, I had no formal training and spent 30 yrs doing payroll and bookkeeping by just learning on the previous bookkeepers coat tails.  Being a quick learner a library book would probably give you enough basics and I stayed with small corporations early on.  The previous bookkeeping and payroll records pretty much showed me how a particular corp. did their books.  Finally later in my career I was head of HR and the payroll dept for a large constr. company.

Though I think formal education is the best way it was not an option for me and a quick study can get career experience.

Hope you find an at home job that works for you.

The way I have seen/heard of it being done was kinda simple.  Usually an employee of a smaller company works at the company for some time, and then due to their disability talks somebody into letting them do it from home.  If the company likes you and your work, it may not be that big of an issue.  But, if you are working for some large corporation, they would probably care less.

I do all the payroll and accounting as well as office management where I work. A good bit of it could be done from home provided you had the software and the know how. I've just learned it by doing it. Someone showed me a few things about "Quickbooks" and the rest is history.

Accounting software such as Quickbooks pretty much does all the major work. After that it's mainly data entry.

I'm looking for some sort of extra income myself. I make a pretty good salary; but my husbands work is kind of seasonal. We could use an extra income from some sort of home based business to get us through some of the winter months.....and after that we would like to pad our savings. Any other ideas you guys can pass on would be appreciated. Dealing with accounting issues all day at work; I'm not interested in doing more of the same from home at night.

I can't seem to find that website I was look at the other day Poo. I'll look later when time permits.

Just wanted to let you know I work at home on my computer.  I do internet searches and training for chacha.com.  You do it whenever you feel like it.  I won't get rich doing it but I make enough to have some extra 'fun' money.  If anyone is interested, pm me your email address.  I can send you an invite to become a guide.  You can check it out here.

soo much info i love it!

day by day i get worse and worse

I'm seriously looking myself for something to help me earn some extra cash too. I work, but have some debt I'd kill to pay off and get that off my back. I got one of these home based business opprotunity magazines at the grocery store and have been looking through it.

One thing it says for sure is don't get involved with any of these offers that won't tell you what it's about before asking you to pay a fee. Skip those. Another key thing is do something you really like or you'll give up on it too quickly. Take the time to search out opprotunites that really interest you.

Does anyone here sale things on EBay? How does that work?

Me & hubby when I was doing okay, we would sell stuff on eBay. It is nice to do for extra income. Just getting stuff shipped is kinda time consuming and if they live out of the US it is kinda a pain in the butt as you have to fill out forms.

We would sell things on eBay for when we needed extra money to pay a bill or for us to be able to do something we normally would not have the money for.

When we were really working on it one christmas we made close to 00 in less than 30 days.

We sold mostly yugioh cards, as daughter was collecting them and we would sell her doubles and at the time I was collecting Pokemon and I would sell my doubles in lots and make good money off of them, but then the market for cards went down, as they kept putting out new sets every other month so it was hard to get the good cards while they were getting good, because we were buying them per pack.

Oh and one year it was a new fad for Mighty Beanz. We got on that wagon early on and made lots of money for about 3 months.

We mostly sold what our daughter was into. It was our way of letting her collect things and then that collection would fund her to expand her collection or move on to the next collection.

It is a good thing daughter has not been into collecting things the last couple of years. I guess it is because we keep telling her no.

One thing about selling stuff on eBay it is very time consuming and if you do not feel good you more than likely will not feel like doing it. I know I have thought about doing eBay all the time... like make a business out of it, but then you have the running around to find the stuff to sell and the money to buy the stuff. It is just a little more than I want to do right now.

Oh another idea... maybe you can try to do websites, if you know HTML. I taught myself HTML and anything I do not know, I can learn. I have created 3 websites for my brother and his friend. I did their websites to help me learn more about building one, so I did not charge them and I update and add new things to their sites when they ask me to. In exchange for all my volunteer work I do for them I got a laptop, expensive softwear to help me work on their sites, and a free trip to california to get on a train to oregon to see a USC football game. I also get free printer ink whenever I need it and anything else I need computer wise. I print out all website emails and keep up with website stuff.

But as of lately I have not felt like working on my brothers websites. And just think I use to live for working on his websites. I love doing websites, but I just do not have the drive or gumption I once had to keep at it. Maybe when I get to doing better and able to sit up in a chair without getting extremely stiff and hurting I will get back to working and building websites.

My life would probably be a little easier and more money if I would just build off of my "talent". I am not really talented in website building, I cannot even make a website template, I have to use free templates that someone else created to build a website. But I can put a website together and make it functional and what it is to do.

I assume you can get all the instructions about how to get started on the website (Ebay?)?

I'm just toying with this one. I recently started doing little mosaic tile projects and although I'm not great at it yet; I thought I might be able to fence some of my product at EBay. Although I like doing the craft; I've only got the desire for so much of that stuff around my house and it's kindof expensive to do good stuff.

I  was looking on there the other day briefly at tiles and noticed there were some stuff on there for sale for a really high price. How does that work? You make a starting bid and then just see what happens? Depends on how bad someone wants it and how many people are willing to bid?

I might have some stuff around the house to sale as well. My garage is pack with junk I could easily part with for a price (Any price for that matter!)

That thing that Mamamia posted might be good for you Joonie. Looks like something you could sit on the couch with a laptop and poke around with. You're good with the computer and research.

Might good for Roxy too.

to an hour a few hours a day or even a week would be grocery money.

How much do you make Mama? About how many hours a week do you dedicate to it?

Well, you ahve to do a lot of research too on your items if you want to get the most for them. And then there are some items you can just put a picture up and a brief description and it will get what it should, but that is if it is sought after or hard to come by.

We use to mostly look to see what kind of things would get good, as we did not have much in our house to sell. So we would go look for things that were selling good on eBay and set the price for what we paid for the item and let it ride. I know there were times when some of the items would not sell on the first go around, but it seems the longer you hold on to it the more it will get when there are not that many listings months later.

I use to like to do eBay and go looking for stuff. It helped me and my hubby to get closer to each other. It is kinda like our little hobby we enjoy to do together, but since I am not up to doing all the running around and taking pictures and making the listings. But when I was up to doing it, we would go to every store within a 60 mile radius and buy up all that we could of that certain item that was doing so well.

I think eBay helped me & hubby to get along better. Where as before eBay we were all the time mad at each other or fighting about something... ya know the drill.

I may buy some tiles on there. Their a heck of a lot cheaper there than in the stores.

Wendy~you could sale some of your photographs on there. You're are far better than some I saw on there.

Lovie i think people would buy anything your selling... especially if the other ones are over priced and yours were reasonabley priced. id go for it what can you loose!?

she can lose 40 cents

I would list one to see how it does. Poo, is right what do ya got to lose?

I think I might look into it a little more.....can't lose much that's for sure. I use to buy and sell antique quilts on Ebay but it has become too hard to take the many pics needed to get top dollar.  I buy when the prices are down and sell when they go up like at Mother's Day or Christmas.  At the moment I have 8 to sell and am going to get my son to take the pics and help with the listings for Mother's Day.  It is not really hard but one does need to do their homework and the pics can be a bit difficult.

You can sell anything lying around your house you don't use anymore on ebay.  It is amazing the things that sell there!!!  It is really easy to do too.  You can set up an account thru paypal to get paid and also print your shipping labels at home and the post office will come get them.  I only sell to USA and Canada.  Saves big headaches!

As for the chacha job.  I make about 100.00 a month.  I don't spend alot of time at it though.  Maybe 10 hours a week.  And, I do have a laptop and sit on my couch with my family and watching tv.

Still sounds like a little "Mad Money" you could use to spend on numerous things!

I'm liking the ebay idea more and more.

Did anyone watch Opera today? They had Mom's that have made millions and Paula Dean. She's hilarious!

Lovie,

That is exactly what I use my chacha earnings for!  MAD MONEY.  It's all about me.  I am always spending money on the 4 kids and us as a family.  It is nice to be able to do stuff for me though!

Girl~I so know whatchya mean. If it's not one thing it's another and rarely do I do anything for myself. It would be really nice to have a little extra to just be selfish with.

I would love to work from home or sell stuff out of my garage on ebay but like others have said I dont know how to get started. I have Home Interior pictures, figurines sconces, etc. im sick of looking at it and want to make a major change in my decor.  I can help anyone who wants to know how the eBay stuff works. Just PM me and I will try my best to help ya out. Joonie...I have been looking into eBay too. I bought the books to teach me the ropes but when I went to set up a sellers account they asked for my credit card and bank account. I was leary. Should I be? Did you do that too? Thanks so much for your information!

Can't you set up a PayPal account? What exactly is a "PayPal" account?

Post the answers to these questions here Joonie verses PM. We'd all like to know about this stuff.

Ebay does need your bank account or cc number so they can collect their share of your auctions.  There are fees for listing and fees for selling.  They will collect once a month.

You really need a paypal account too so people can pay you.  You will use your bank account again.  You can add a credit card to it as well.  Just go to paypal.com to sign up for an account.

Ebay has had my info for years and I have had no problems.  Your items have a better chance of selling with a PayPal account and you have a better chance of getting paid after the auction is over.

Definately read Ebay's selling tips and research, research.  See what others are getting for like items and study the listings that have the most action.  I think that a lot of the success has to do with presentation.

Good luck.

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay in response. I have not been online in a couple of days, as hubby is hogging the internet

Hi Suelee-

Mamamiax4 is right with what she stated about eBay needing credit card and/or bank account information. They need it for fees and charge it once a month, usually at the beginning of the month.

It would be wise to attach a credit card to your account vs bank account, if you are like us we never have any money in the bank or enough money in the bank to cover fees charged, that way you do not end up paying for over drafting. With a CC attached they just get declined and they will contact you to let you know the payment was declined. You can also pay your eBay fees with your PayPal account if you have money in your PayPal account.

Like Bonny we have had our eBay account since 2000 and we have never had any problems.

You do need PayPal. It appeals to more buyers if you give that option of paying with PayPal. We have a Premire account with PayPal. You would get a Premire account if you plan on selling and Personal account is for buying, but you can receive a limited amount of payments per year with the Personal account. But if you intend on selling on eBay you need the Premire account, which is free.

PayPal does charge fees for receiving payment. A received payment of .00 would be around a .00 fee so that would be .00 you are left with.

Here are some links to check out. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
