Question abt Seronegative definition | Arthritis Information

Sorry if this is covered in the Seronegative post (too long for me to read in my current state), but I have a question...

I tested negative for the RF, but my sed rate and CRP were up.  Does that make me seronegative or seropositive?  In other words, does it just depend on the RF, or on all the bloodwork?

Just the RF I think. I'm no expert.

Yeah, I think it's just RF too. Your seronegative.

Some docs think RF- may be a different disease than RF+, others say the RF test just isn't sensitive enough to detect "sub" levels of RF, others say it's all on the same spectrum, from RF- to RF+.

Thanks so much!
Hello. My dx is seronegative and this is because my sed rate when I was dxd was at 143 and can't remember what my crp reading was but it was elevated, too. Also, with seronegative RA there usually isn't a lot of joint swelling BUT DEFINITELY THERE IS PAIN. I do have minimal joint swelling from time to time. According to my rheumy joint deterioration, if any, happens slowly.  Hope this helps.  Take Care
Watchingwolf (and everyone)...

One thing about RA is that it's a very interesting disease.  Everyone is so different.  I'm sero-negative.  And before I began treatment, I had lots of swelling in hands, wrists, feet, ankles and knees.  I also had pain, but I  don't think it was as bad as a lot of people.  After being on MTX for a little over a year and Enbrel for four months, now I have very little swelling and pain.  But the reason my doc added the Enbrel four months ago is that there was detectable joint damage on my X-rays that he wanted to stop in it's tracks.  (I was diagnosed in August of 2005.)

What a strange disease this is!
