thought I would introduce myself.  name is: Ian an live about an hour north of Toronto, Canada.

I have not had an appt with a rheumatologist to determine if I have RA but all signs point that way,  suffered with chronic Knee (both)orthopedic arthritis for the last 10 years and at the age of 47 the orthapedic surgeon is reluctant on a total knee replacement.

Then Wham last week all my joints started aching and whatever is happening torpedo'd my knees - now the doctor is setting up an appointment for me with a rheumatologist

Hi Ianc...welcome!

I'm in Ontario as well...St.Thomas..near London.

Why is the surgeon reluctant to do the knee replacement?

You might not actually need a knee replacement. Arthoscopic surgery has really improved in the last few years. I would get a least a couple of surgical opinions before doing a total knee.

And welcome!

Welcome Ian! Glad you're here.

thanks folks for the warm welcome

Actually I did get some releaf with the orthoscopic on both knees about 3-years ago - In December the Orthopedic surgeon mentioned Cortizone injections (physo did nothing)

My Mother just had a total knee done 3-weeks ago (replacement of a failed partial) and feels great - so I will get a second opinion from her surgeon as well.

still no appointment with the rheumatologist - I may have to travel to a major center to see one

thanks again folks

Also what about Synvisc shots. I had a lot of success with those in combo with physical therapy. I was originally told 4 years ago that I needed total knee replacements. But after months of PT and later fitness training, it seems to have improved or the surgery treatment has improved. But they are only doing arthoscopic surgery next month. I am so excited that I could almost dance. Welcome Ian!

Hello...My name is Rebekka and I have RA as of last July. Just after my 18th birthday. So I am just saying i am here.

Welcome Rebekka! You have come to the right place!

Welcome ianc!I am just , well waaaay south in Michigan. It is really cold here right now and it has been one bad bone day after another, I do not know how everyone in Canada can stand the cold!

Glad you found us! I can relate to the "WHAM" knee pain thing, mine started about a month ago in my left knee. Just bam, hit me like a ton of bricks, but it is not life threatening at this time so I just do what I can. I hope you find a quick solution to your knee pain and all this RA stuff.
