Just wondering if anyone has noticed hormonal changes with mtx. And if so what to do about it. I have always been aware of body talk and it is screaming hormones at me at the moment. Been on mtx for 3 months now, i think, is all a blur. I get real foggy. My gyno told me it will bring early menopause, is this true?
Yep. I was 33 when I went into menopause after a year on MTX.
Luckily I'd had my children very young; but had I still wanted to have children I would have been furious at the doctors that never even warned me it was possible.
I'm now 36 and have been on HRT for two years.
Well, here is my story. My left nipple became sore. I kinda blew it off. After about 2 months, I developed a lump below the nipple. My Dr. sent me to the universty hospital for a mamogram and MRI. I saw the mammogram pictures and it was so scary. It looked like a mass that I would think to be cancer. Anyway, I was told that it is something the name I can't remember. Oh, also my breasts began to grow. I was told that one of the drugs causes hormonal changes and sometimes causes enlarging breasts even in men. The Dr. said that it was either the MTX or Pred, whichever causes hormonal changes, sorry I can't remember which he said. I was so glad that it wasn't cancer or something bad that I didn't listen real well to the other. Oh yeah, he also said that smoking marijauna can cause it, but I think he just said that because my eyes were red and glossy, maybe not.Jennee,
We have alot of good things to look forward to. I'm just not sure that a man bra is one of those good things. Ha ha and tee hee.
I'm on MTX and pred and haven't had these sorts of side effects (yet!) - I
My doctors won't swear it was the MTX use (I was on it a year before my symptoms started)Nor will they swear that the RA caused it. Both have been documented to cause early menopause.
Either way; I'm in early menopause. Now if I stopped the MTX use it might all reverse. I don't know. MY oB doesn't think so because my hormone levels are well within the levels for someone in full blown menopause!
Who knows? If I was still hoping to have a child I wouldn't want to take that chance. I'm happy I don't have to make a choice because MTX really helps me now. I hope I'll be able to continue taking it long term like so many others I hear do and have a great life.
Hi all,
