hi all, I'm new and I was just wondering how many people, know about or have someone that comes in and helps w/ the cleaning, taking you on errands, laundry, etc etc?

I just found out about this service, wish I'd known sooner..!!

I'm not sure, why I get mine free, if its bc I'm on disability or its available to anyone, w/ a drs. reference.

I live in ca, and I like the fact that I get to choose my worker and what hours, she works.  I really like her. Its such a blessing and thought others might not know about this service.

I get 24.4 hrs a month, so I've worked it out, that she comes in twice a wk and its been soooooooo wonderful!!

Theres this game, called be careful what you wish for, like I really wish i could have a maid..

whoosh your wish is now granted and you now also have RA.. lol and LOL.  I am not on disability but could really use someone to come in a couple of times a week and lift the burden from my family.  I am checking with my insurance this week to see what they require and talking to my RD about it on the 5th.  I think I just need him to write that I need some help a couple of times a week.I have a housekeeper that cleans my house once a week...and my laundry gets picked up once a week and gets done.  It saves me a tremendous amount of work!!  I have two boys and they go through a huge amount of laundry.
I also have a Long Term Care policy that gives you an aide if you qualify.  Fortunately...I do not qualify yet but it's nice to know I will have that when the times comes.
I also use Peapod to deliver my groceries...that is a huge help also.

My mom in MS who is disabled has someone come in once a week.

I used to have my own cleaning business before RA. I had 9 houses that I cleaned. A couple of them every week and some every other week. I used to be no problem to clean 2 houses then come home and clean my own and make dinner. There was good money in it but it was very hard work. Now I can't even clean my own house.

I'll have to ask my mamma how she got her assistantance.

I am fortunate that my hubbie and kids are a huge help. Plus my best friend has her own cleaning business. She came out a couple of weeks ago and rearranged my front room and mopped all my floors on her hands and knees. She gave me a huge discount cuz she loves me. My hubby works extra to pay for someone to come in twice a month.  After my disability award I am going to check into getting more help.  My teenage son is absolutely wonderful in helping but he does have school and works some. ooops, forgot to say a big welcome Whisperedwind and glad you are here with us.

I just had my first visit from the home cleaning. I went through the Senior Citizen Center as they also handle services for the disabled. Since I really don't have an income, I'm getting the service for free. Otherwise, I think it is on a donation basis.

I asked for the minimum. I just need someone to clean the floors, the stove, dishes maybe, the bathroom and laundry. I get 4 hours 2x a month. The girl was really nice but quite talkative. But it was a nice break in my day so I really didn't mind that. She did all that I asked. I'll probably have her help with more things next time.

It was very helpful.

My grandma used to have some cleaning ladies come in but she didnt like the way they dusted.  LMAO how can you dust wrong? well now she cons my cousin into helping

I am thinking about getting assistance for our mother because I can barely keep up anymore an dif we do not get help we will have to place her in  nursing home and sell the house.  HEck I need the help as well I can hardly do all this housework, our home is rather large and it is a challenge most days.

Jode, look into the Centers for Independent Living and Long Term Care for your mother. They have a program here that helps a person that would normally need nursing care to stay in their home. It sounds like your mom is the point at which she needs this.

Thanks Deanna, yeah my sis and I have briefly talked about this and our mother is in deep denial over it and she is very stubborn and rather mean at times so it has been a challenge!!!!!!!

WE are going to have to check into home nurse care I think. I just cannot handle the late night hours with my daughter and her work and the late night hours of cleaning up.......feces.......I am learning all about the most recent air fresheners though! lol and also about the difference between "Depends" and the Meijer brand of adult protective wear. Oh geee, just what I wanna know! *grumbling*

I realize that many individuals go through this in their life where they have teenagers and ailing parents, it just seems as though I have done this all my life, all by myself. First the grandparents*God rest their souls*, then my dad *God rest his soul* ( due to an accident leaving him a para). I understand it and know they are embrassed and all but it is a LOT OF WORK! IT is one of those ""DIRTY JOBS"".

We cannot afford the house and my mom in a nursing home or assitive living arrangements so we are doing the best we can. When I stop and  think about it, MY future looks rather bleak!

I talked to my mommy this morning. She lives in a apartment building for senior citizens on low income in Picayune MS.

She has a lady named Bonny that comes in twice a week for 2 hours each time to clean. She loves her. She said she got it thru Medicare and they pay for it.

My mom has OA, diabetes, when she was a teenager she was in a car accident (they hit a bull) she ended up in a cornfield about 50 feet from the car. Broke her neck & back. She has a don't know how many pins from broken bones.....etc etc etc She's has a motor scooter.

Bonny does her dishes, changes her bed, whatever she asks for. Mom said last time she cleaned her microwave. She evens runs to the store or other errands for my mom. My mom loves the company and says Bonny does a wonderful job. Hope that helps some.
