What do you consider a fever? | Arthritis Information

I was just wondering what everyone here considers a fever? I have had a horrible sore throte for the past week, and i think i am loosing my voice. My temperature was a little less than 2 degrees higher than normal, but it is onlt 98.5. I know this is normal, but I was just wondering what everyone else here thought.

I never run a fever. My GP says my meds seem to mask it. Even when I've been really sick I don't run a fever.

I'm not sure what meds your on but it's not that unusal for some immune suppresants to mask it. Don't let a fever be the only factor in determining if you've got an infection or not.

I havnt run a fever in forever, ever since i started TNF inhibitors! Its really frustrating because my regular doctor thinks that if you dont have a fever of 100 or higher that you are not all that sick, ahhhhhhh, I dont get how he doesnt understand!!!!

My "normal" temperature used to be 97.5, and sometimes I still get down that low.  But by the end of the day I'm often at 99.5 and on nights like last night I hang out at 100.6.  But I find there are times that I feel feverish and I'm still at 98.5.  I really think the inflammation makes it very hard to tell....I feel feverish at least once or twice a day.

As far as meds masking it, more than one doctor has told me that all my NSAIDS and such still wouldn't mask a fever (not including immune suppressants, I wasn't on Enbrel at the time).  I find that difficult to understand.  If I wasn't on the meds and I had a fever, I'd take Tylenol to bring it down.  So if I'm already on the equivalent of a whole lot of Tylenol, why couldn't that mask a fever?

Anyway, back to the point...it sounds like you should call your doc.

I kind of have to agree with my GP saying that my meds mask my fever. I've been really sick on many occations including so sick with bronchitis they were doing chest x-rays because they thought it was phuemonia. I never ran a fever.

Do you have to have a fever with an infection? I don't know; she might be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that someone with my health conditions and numerous "infections" over the years just wouldn't have a fever. I think it's pretty obvious that something is masking it.

Now this was my GP saying this; but she stays pretty current on the disease. I haven't discussed it with my RD.

I never run a fever either.  My normal temp is always rather low too.

I think you can run a fever at the beginning of an infection but the fever will go away and you still have the infection.  Least that's what I heard somewhere.

I'm running a fever of 99.5 today. I'm taking tylenol, vicodine and Mobic. The hematologist was concerned. My primary has not been.
