Foot pain | Arthritis Information

Hi all - I'm new to this board, and have a question. I am participating in
the Body For Life challenge, started Jan. 1. So far so good, even tho I
developed shinges on Jan. 8th and have not been able to take an Enberl
shot since. My workout consists of weights on M/W/F and cardio on T/
TH/Sat. I walk 3 miles on the treadmill for cardio. Last night was my lower
body workout, and during the night was awakened 2 times with
excruitating pain in my left ankle, more like a burning "nerve" pain on the
top. When I worked out tonight and all day it didn't hurt at all. It is not
like the RA pain I have, this just took my breath away, and took
about 10 minutes each time to subside. Any ideas? I am currently on 3
mg Prednisone per day, a pain pill and take a muscle relaxer at night,
plus a hot whirlpool before bed. (Plus 50 mg Enbrel once a week when
not battling any infection - which I hope will be really soon! ) Thanks
for any input. Is is something I should report to my doctor?)great4839114.7884143519I was reading another part of this site, and in talking about the nervous
system and RA it says this:

Rheumatoid vasculitis may cause a nerve condition with patchy loss of
feeling in one or more extremities, often in association with wristdrop or
footdrop

I am assuming "footdrop" is exactly what it says, dropping the foot? like
when you walk? do you suppose that would cause the pain if the nerve has
been pinched or something?

I've got shingles questions great48. (Welcome to AI)

I've got a few mystery spots around the side of my face and a few under my eye. They seem strange to me.....and a few more have appeared since I first noticed them. How did your shingles develop. Was it really quick?

No pain, no itching, I have had some pain in this area which was strange to me. Any light you can shed on this would be helpful to me.

Good Luck with your race. Hope you're feeling like a million bucks by race day!

Welcome great48!  I would report any changes to your Dr.

I was surprised you were able to put that much stress on your feet and ankles. My RA caused me to go from jogging (while healthy) to barely being able to walk to the car.  SOOOOOO many things can be going on with your feet and ankles.  If you don't get satisfactory answers from your RD go to a foot specialist who has had experience treating the complicatioins of RA.  I've only had it 3 years and I've have had vasculitis, plantar faciitis, noduals (with nerve damage),synovitis, 2nd metatarsal contracture, heel cord problems and now "acquired flat feet".  OW! I've lost strength and mobilty in both ankles. Get it checked out quickly.  You might have to change to a bike or other cardio that doesn't require full weight bearing on your feet and ankles.  You might also look into taping your ankles with athletic tape before working out.  RA joints need extra support.

Speaking of feet I noticed last week that I am just about flat footed.  I think that it is due to losing muscle tone being unable to walk much.  I have like a burning pain from it on the top and figure it is just the nerves being misplaced due to the foot changes.  I agree that you might have to change your cardio routine a bit to maybe the stationary bike or something similar. My feet are the most effected by arthritis part of my body to the point where the bones in my toes have degenerated and I am facing joint replacement surgery in the near future. I am not sure if it is related or is the same thing, but I also have that severe ankle pain from time to time. I am being treated by a podiatrist right now and one thing he did suggest was arch supports for my shoes. He also suggested I wear nothing by Nike Air Walkers. Both of these measures have not by any means eliminated the pain, but it has helped a little bit, enough to notice anyway. Have you tried anything like that? I know its a long shot, but if you haven't tried it, it just might help at least a little bit.

Welcome! I am pretty new here too.
