Alrught, I need some advice. I have been sick for the past week with some kind of throte and chest thing. I am afraid to go to my doctor, because some days he thinks if you dont have a fever you are not sick, and dosent believe in giving kids perscriptions, then other days he is really nice about everything. I just dont want to get yelled at for comming in when I dont have a fever (how dare I!!! LOL!). I want to switch to another doctor, but he works downtown, which is kinda scary, with all the shooting that go on and stuff. I think he is leaving soon, but I dont know for a fact. I am so confused and dont know what to do!!!

If you have had this for a week with no improvement or responding to otc drugs, you probably need to see a doctor.  You know your body better than anybody else.  I am a firm believer in standing up for my body and illnesses.  Nobody else is going to do it for me.  Don't let him intimidate you!  Be firm about what you believe and stand your ground!!!

Good luck and feel better!

I'm not sure at all how to answer that. What RA meds are you on?

I think I answered you yesterday when asking what we considered a temp.

I never run a tempature and my GP says that my meds mask it. I've been on immune suppresants for years though; I don't know what meds you are on.

I think I'd suggest a different doctor if he treats you with this much disrespect.

When you say "Kid" how old are you? Take a parent with you. Do you still live with your parents?

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Pain meds like Tylenol or Advil also mask fevers.

You have every reason to be treated with respect. You are not asking for narcotics. You're asking for medical treatment. I remember my family doctor growing up would talk to me forever about any health problems I had. My mom was often not in the room. He was one of my heroes growing up.

So, first he should respect you. You're not exactly a dummy, you know. And, it doesn't hurt to get your parents involved, even if it's just a phone call ahead of time.

Change doctors-----fast!  Where do you live that there's so much shooting downtown you're afraid to go?
