Am I remembering that correctly? Someone here was dealing with MRSA? Well, this was in a newsletter I got today. Antibiotic Treatment
Tygacil Approved; First in a
New Class FDA has approved Tygacil for the treatment of
adults with complicated intra-abdominal and complicated skin and skin structure
infections, including infections due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus
aureus (MRSA), a type of infection for which there are few treatment
options. Tygacil, a glycylcycline antibiotic
related to tetracyclines, retains activity against some bacteria that are
resistant to tetracyclines.

That was me! Got an infected spider bite, dog bite, not sure what and got a MRSA staph infection. I was on MTX at the time. and had to come off it. Had to have surgury within just two days and poison had spread thru my body. Was in isolation and had to have wound care for a month. Was treated with Vancomyacin IV's and got over it. Since this staph infection is in the whole community, glad there is another antibiotic to treat it. Hope I never go thru that again.
