Good morning all! Hello from the tundra!

Boy oh boy is it cold here. This morning it was -8 degrees with a -41 degree wind chill!  We set a new record this morning. We all knew that super nice winter we were having ,we would have to pay for at some point. It is not suppose to be any warmer here for the next 3 days. The high today is suppose to be 3 degrees. But my puter is still telling me it is -5 degrees out. Darned Groundhog is fibbing again...I know the cold hurts me the last 2 days. Shoulder and ankle hurt!
But the Good news is, it is suppose to warm up around Valentines Day (50's) and stay at least normal temps for awhile. Not planning to go out today. No work today! But have to at some point, have to go try to start the car. Too cold to let it sit. Hubbys truck gave a groan this morning, but it started ok.
Hoping for a pain free day for all...Huggs to all!

I hear ya!  My computer says 1 degree!! When I got up this morning the real temp was -1 with wind chill to 20 below!   Can I go back to bed??  I have been sitting at my desk for 2 hours and answered one phone call and say the mail lady!  Talk about a slow day.
Our actual temperature at 6:00AM was cold enough to freeze "the  _______ off a billy goat" at -31 degrees.

One of my dearest friends did venture out this day and told me that everyone's words were freezing midair. When  a warm-up happens this could be interesing!
Oh MY......Where do you live?  Its up to a whole -4 now....I live in Southern PA, close to the Maryland line. I grew up in Erie, so moving here , most the time it is warmer here than Erie. Not Today!  And not for the next 2 days....... Bitter cold here in Michigan, too. Glad they didn't have the Super Bowl here THIS year!!!
We live about 40 miles from Grand Forks, North Dakota. Our current actual temp. is -11 degrees.
Wow....up to -1, here........   We have heating fuel. We had both tanks filled this past fall. Thats 550 gallons of fuel @ 2.06 per gallon! Because winter up to this point has been so mild, we probably have only used half of the one tank. But I must say, we did a good job sealing the house up this year. Today I have only heard the furance run 5 times, so far. Temp is set @66 degrees.
Watchingwolf, you are in the frozen tundra... How do you get your cars to run in such cold temps? Do you use warmers? The coldest I ever saw in Erie was -17 and my one car did freeze. It took 3 days at the car mechanics to thaw out.

Stay warm all!
I live in Michigan too.  We don't have school today due to the wind chill.  What will they come up with next!?!  So, I am saddled with all 4 kids for an extra day this week.  It is supposed to be cold all week.  I sure hope they don't keep it closed all week.  I'll go nuts
Most people plug-in their cars and for sure use the correct weight oil for the winter. For people not having plug-ins on their vehicles this means they must get up and go out every few hours to start their vehicle and let it run 10-15 minutes.  We have a garage to keep our vehicles in and though we have plug-ins for our vehicles we don't use them.

Now if you're running diesel you have a different set of problems. You don't have a choice but to plug in your vehicle. If you stop anywhere it would definitely be in your best interest not to shut-off your vehicle for there isn't any guarantee your vehicle will start again without assistance.

There are two weather conditions under which schools are for certain closed here. 1. If the wind is blowing so hard that ground blizzard conditions prevent you from seeing your hand at arms length (just a titch of an exaggeration). 2. If it's bone-breaking cold and the wind is blowing > 20-25mph.

Since there's no wind schools weren't closed.  Of course, they don't let the kids out for recess in this cold.

Actually we've had a mild winter with this being the first cold snap. When we watch the news and see what the rest of the country has had to deal with we all give a sigh of relief. At least all we have to deal with is the cold and snow, not the clean-up from flooding, mud slides, etc.  Take Care

By the way it's now -7 degrees. It probably won't reach zero this day so you won't see anybody wearing shorts.

watchingwolf39118.5381481481Oh, now don't hate me. It's warm enough here in Phoenix to sit outside in a short sleeve shirt. We are so spoiled.

It was -1 in central IL this morning. Now it is 19. Supposed to get 1 to 3 inches of snow overnight and tomorrow. My daughter borrowed my car cuz she doesn't have heat in hers. I'm not going anywhere......no way!

Our daughter and family live in the deep south and today she emailed me a sympathy card - thought that was tooooooo funny! Especially since she was born and raised in the far north. Come summer I can give her grief for the humidity really bothers her and she developed hay fever after they moved to the deep south several years ago.
