pain around the rib cage | Arthritis Information

Hi there just wondered if anyone has suffered pain around the rib cage ????

Hello, Bridee. Yes, pain in the ribcage can be a part of PMR. Sneezing is awful and expanding the ribcage can be pretty uncomfortable. I get a family member to beat on either side of my spine to alleviate some of the discomfort. The spine and sternum are where the ribcage pain is localized for me. If you don’t have someone to “beat” on you, one of those percussion handheld massage tools helps. I’ve also found a topical product called Biofreeze that provides some relief, too. I get someone to roll it liberally along both sides of my spine then I apply it to the sternum, and clavicles. Gentle stretching helps, too.

Yes I get ribcage problems sometimes and wicked cramps sometimes there as well.
KewaneeThanks for your replies sparky and Kewanee.....Its my husband who has PMR he's had it nearly two years now and on the whole not too bad .The last few weeks he has complained about the pain in his chest and rib cage and I have been having sleepless nights worrying about something moe sinister.....This is the wonderful thing about this forum you can share your troubles and get help from other people who may have the same problems. Thanks again to you two , and to everyone who contributes to this forum. I hope one day I can help someone with the experience weve had since my husband was diagnosed

Hi bridee--I'm a few days behind, but I, too, have ocassional rib pain. when I have it I have it for several days.

Sparky--I almost sneezed one time when my upper back muscles were hurting and I also had the wrap-around the rib cage pain, but the pain from the sneeze stopped the thing in mid-sneeze!  It felt like it would break me apart if I finished.

I had a flare up for about a month, but my husband bought me one of those Homedic back massage chair pads.  It along w/a moist heating pad, too, seemed to do the trick, pretty quickly.  He wanted to buy me one @ Christmas but I was pretty good (until a couple of days afterward), so I said no.  I put up with that back pain for a month before agreeing to the pad.  After using it and the heat, the pain was gone in a couple of days.

Wow

I thought that something weird was wrong with me.I to get pain, and popping noise from chest area also.Doc. listened and said it grossed her out...

ralph hurts39126.2536458333Hi Ralph, I've had those popping noises in around my collarbone and neck.  It is weird!Hi to everyone,
I have been having a terrible flare, and am having a lot of pain around the rib cage, did not think it had any thing to do with the pmr, but now that I see some of the posts I am thinking this could be my problem too.  I can not believe the pain that this disease causes, seems it can be anywhere in the body,  I also have a lot of pelvic pain that no Dr. seems to be able to diagnose.  Any one think that is the pmr?  Or is any one else having a lot of pelvic pain. I look forward to your replies. Georgiana
Hi Georgina, I posted in the thread called "Colonscopy" about pelvic pain.  I hope read it there and give me your thoughts.  Maybe we should have started a new thread.   Mary
