I just recently became a member on my local arthritis foundation chapter. I went to our first get-together yesterday and there was hardly anyone there. Maybe 5 people that actually have ra and 10 people all together. I was expecting so many more people than that. Anyway I signed up for our local walk thats held in April to help raise money for the arthritis foundation to hopefully find a CURE for US.

has anyone here done this walk? I don't know if I will actually be able to walk as I am waiting to hear if I have to have a hip replacement because right now I can hardly walk.

If anyone would like to support me in my goal of raiseing 500.00 for research for US I would really appreciate it. I think this is a positive step for me to help me cope, understand and accept what I have I have been dealt with.

I hope all are doing well and I just wanted to say that I love this forum because of the kind and understanding people on here. Even though I don't post much I read this board daily.

Thanks!

Please read RA and surgery (hurting) I have suffered so much from NOT getting RA treatment after heart valve surgery Dec. 1, 06, I can't tell you how important it is to get help before your hip surgery.

One person took extra predisone, but I didn't and paid big time!

                Say what??

Brenna, I believe Crunchy participated last year and is doing so again this year.  She might be able to share with everyone what it was like.  I believe she did it with her daughter.

Hi Brenna,

I have done the Walk for the last 3 years and am planning to do it again this year.  My Team (there is 2 of us - Team Pugnacious) walked the 3 miles each time but there is also a 1 mile walk as well and the couse is usually pretty flat.  If you participate, you will see people walking, running (those are the ones who still have knees), being pushed in wheelchairs, motorized wheelchairs, scooters, etc.  Our goal is modest (0) but we have surpassed it each year and last year we hit a record, for us, 0.  In past years there has been a party like atmosphere before and after the walk, usually with free refreshments, samples, literature and of course drawings for prizes.  Cleveland Ohio's walk is on May 5 and it will be held at the Metroparks Zoo.  Our Kick-Off Party is Feb 21.  We needed a larger venue because they are estimating 800 participants for this years Walk.

Good Luck to you!! Even if you can't do the walk, just go to the festivities and cheer the walkers on.  We can always use the encouragement.

Hey Marianne - you're from the Cleveland area?  I was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland - until time to start high school.  Then we moved to Connecticut.

Cleveland is such a great city now!  I love the way it is being revitalized and new life being breathed into it!  It's so beautiful!  (I can assure you it wasn't so nice when I left many moons ago).

Good luck with the walk -you both deserve a round of applause!
