Hi Hillhoney,

I too, was an eastsider - Born and raised in Slavic Village. Now I'm a suburbanite.  Your right, the city has come a long way!

Thanks for the encouragement - We walk for all those who can't!

Well I am embarrassed to admit where I was born, because most people don't know it the way it used to be.  I was born in East Cleveland, which is a hell hole now.  I'm probably older than you, LOL! but it used to be a beautiful community.

Then we moved out to Willoughby in 1970.  I'm not familiar with Slavic Village.

Slavic Village is what it is called now.  Its actually the very Polish area between Fleet Ave and Broadway whose center point is St Stanislaus Catholic Church.  When I was growing up, the area had no specific name. Yes, I'm Polish or at least half Polish what can I say!  I still like kielbasi and saurkraut as well as pierogis and can't wait for Feb 21 for Paczki (donut) Day (Polish version of Mardi Gras). Fortunately for me a lot of the traditions have moved right along with us to the suburbs.
