I am glad to see this board slowly coming back to what is was before. I dont know about the others but I felt quite shattered after the pity party attacks of the few posters from last week. Seemingly buckeye who never recommends this board has decided to join us & may recommend this board as a place where those in need of support can come, many patients will be glad if you do.
A lot of you are having problems with snow & ice at the moment, take lots of care.   Are you doing okay now Deanna & Roxy also. You have made some major decisions Jode, good for you. You have a lot to deal with so hopefully the pressure will ease up somewhat for you soon.
Hugs,

Hi Cassie, board has seemed a little stressed lately. I'm doing a bit better. I had a really good PT session today. I asked last time for them to up the drill. So, I got to do things outside of the water like actually ride the exercise bike. That's a major milestone for me.

And, I had a most excellent appointment with my new Pain Specialist. We are dumping the morphine (yeah) as I did not like it and at the lower dose, it's not doing me a bit of good. The higher dose made me non-functional. So, she's going to try methodone because it targets the Central Nervous System more, but at a really low dose. She's also going to try Lyrica which I see a lot of people have good results from. If that doesn't do it for me then she's going to try Cymbalta which is supposed to be good for FM. She is also asking for manual therapy (massage) to be added to my PT. Oh, now that will be heaven as it helps me a lot. Be sure to ask for manual therapy as insurance companies don't want to pay for massage therapy. And, she's asking for nerve conduction tests because of the numbness and tingling in my fingers. Yeah! About time someone did that too.

Later, after I done with my surgeries, she might try trigger point injections to help with the spine and FM problems. At least she is considering all options and all problems. I really, really think she is good.

I got my state assistance stuff all worked out. My SS stuff is with the lawyer (a big stress reliever) and my knee surgeries are next Thurs at 8:30 in the morning. I had to call and ask, "Like where is it going to be?" They hadn't even told me. I think it would be nice if I should up for the event.

Roxy is still feeling pretty bad. Talked to her yesterday and she is just having so much pain. It is very hard for her to type. But a lot of other things in her life are settling down. Brett and the kids are being supportive. She just needs her doctors to get on track. But she reads the posts and thinks of everyone.

Things are progressing so well for you Deanna, I am pleased.   You have had such a rough time, at last progress & help is there for you now.   I am so envious about the massage - I have heard it is fantastic and would imagine the relief to aching bones would be great.
Hope things will start to improve for Roxy soon as well.Deanna, wonderful news from you on several fronts. It seems unusual for someone to push for more from the PT sessions! Brave woman. You go!

PT is the one thing that is really working for me. My therapist was laughing at me today because I want to push to the next level so bad. But I got the bike added and next week they are going attach this buoy thing to me in the water so that I can get some real aerobic exercise. Man, I never thought I would get so excited for some aerobics.

I don't think my sister will get my thrill though. She's a jazzercise instructor. For me, this is a great victory. And yes, I'm thrilled that the docs want to do more PT. They are so happy that this is helping me.

Cassie, you are so right - this is such a welcoming place. It is always good to know that everyone here has been through so much and yet still takes time to help and support others. After being "beat up" a bit(figuratively) at two other forums where I post (one for making an evidently outrageous suggestion, and the other for my lack of scientific knowlege) it is so nice to know that here I won't be judged. Deanna, best of luck with your knee surgeries - are you going to a convalescent place for awhile after the hospital?  Roxy, just stay warm and safe and enjoy your new "baby", hope the pain lets up very soon, and you can join us again.   All the best, Pat

Pat,

No my surgery is supposed to be just arthoscopic, basically out patient. But they've told me very little about it. I had to call yesterday to find out the time and place. That perturbs me. Shouldn't there be a little prep talk before we do this? And shouldn't I have an idea about what recovery is going to be like afterwards?

I'm going to call them today for more info. They may be comfortable with this lack of info, but I am not.

Pat, it is a good thing to ask yourself such questions. Many patients received surgeries can enlightened you.

I know patients have surgical done on one knee are likely to have the other knee done with at a later years.

I drag the knife and chemical drugs and have no great scientific knowledge but know a little about basic and simple herbs and foods. So for nearly 2 decades I have no taken a single chemical drugs yet I have reversed my chronic gout and arthritis of over 20 years that I suffered bedridden for 2-3months when its flared.

Simple, appropriate herbs and foods help my body gradually expel the disease to no threat.

Deanna, now I am a liitle worried, aren't you scheduled for knee replacements?  Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that can be done arthroscopically.  There is the traditional surgery with a long incision, and a newer one which I had called minimally invasive, but it still required about a six inch incision. So I am confused.  I spent 3 days in the hospital (2 yrs ago) then came straight home but only because I had someone here to help me. Definitely could not have managed on my own, and I only had one knee done.  Yes, they should be telling you exactly what to expect - I watched a film in the ortho's office, then a couple days prior to surgery had to go the hospital for pretesting and also to meet with a nurse, PT, and anesthesiology, so I knew pretty much what to expect.   Keep calling until you feel satisfied that you have the answers.    Pat Deanna I sure would get all of your questions answered upfront. That one would worry me also. It's cool to hear you jazzed over PT. I am hoping I can find that out here. I sure would get your questions answered well beforehand though. I am definitely scratching my head over how they would replace a joint arthroscopically. If they indeed can, That would be worth a study...

Cassandra...

I am always willing to give second chances...
