Support for Injections | Arthritis Information

Hi all,

I'm not taking injectibles yet but probably will soon. How do the drug companies do providing patient support?

Your dr's nurse will show you how to do the first shot and you will find that they will give youu all this stuuf to take home there will be a booklet, in some cases a video, and there will be, usually, a couple 1800 numbers for you too.  This is a good place to ask questions too.  Most of us have been on the various injectables and can tell you the tricks of giving yourself the shots.  I hope this helps .  And before I forget:welcome to the board!!!!  meme meme38525.3894907407

I take Humira and they provide a hotline...which I haven't had to use; so I really can't say how supportive they are. They did provide a great introductory packed in the beginning that included a video and very clear instructions. I've found my RD nurse to be the most helpful and will call her before I call this hot line if it's during her hours.

Welcome IgsDuke; I remember being where you are about 8 months ago. There's so much to think about right now...you've come to the perfect place to get your questions asked. I think we have someone here on every bioligic available; and several different experiences to share.

Can we call you Duke?

Igsduk,

I know my RD set up a home visinting nurse, paid for by my insurance.. she came 3 times ( all they paid for) and showed me how to inject, i did all 3 myself, even the very first one. She gave me her number telling me to call her if i ever need her, luckily she lives close by as well! Never had to call her or the doc...

Question: out of curiousity: when you all inject, do you go in at an angle or straight in? I was told (and paperwork showed) injecting at an angle, but my friend in injecting Sub Q lovemox and a 2nd friend does insulin, both injecting straight in... is there a right way? I wont change, just curious...

Thanks

i inject at an angle and i find it to be more comfortable when i push the humira in slowly.  everything i have read about humira says to do it at an angle so that's why i started it that way.

I go in at a 45 degree angle, but that's how I was told to do it by the nurse at my docs office.

As for the drug co. issue, I have nothing but good things to say about the nurses on the enbrel support line.  They have all been very nice to me when I've called in with questions.

I've been taking enbrel for two years and recently (in the last year) I've started to bruise really badly from my injections.  Anyone know what might be going on here?

Bob

I've only been injecting with Enbrel for about 8 weeks, but have been doing MTX for about 4 months.  The last 2 weeks I was bruising like crazy too.  I've been very careful to put slight pressure on the injection site after withdrawing the needle, and hold it for about 30 seconds and the bruising has stopped.
