Anemia or Menopause | Arthritis Information

I thought I had gone through the easiest menopause I'd ever heard of over the past 2 years, just slowly went away, no other horrible symptoms every friend and family member had warned me about. I thought for once I was getting a health break. But over the same time period I'd also been getting slowly worsening anemia. So last Wed. the Dr. told me the anemia of chronic disease(ACD)was gone, and the RA is alot better than it has been in a long time, so Sat. I started my period!!!!! I know one period isn't enough to base a diagnosis on, but have you ever heard of this, going through fake menopause because of ACD? Deidre

Did they ever check your hormone levels to determine that you were actually in menopause?

I started early menopause at age 33. I was in shock; but they blame it on RA or my MTX use and swear there's no doubt.

They've never told me I was anemic so I guess I'm fine there. They'd know, right?

How old were you when this started?

The menopause started about 2 years ago, around the same time my gp said I was becoming anemic, I was 50. No I've never had a hormone test. I have to go back to the Dr. in 2 months, I guess I'll wait till then to ask her what she thinks. I was just so relieved to have not gone through a miserable menopause on top of everything else and now I don't know what is going on. Deidre

I assume you are talking about your OBGYN?

I have had some menopause symptoms; but they started me on HRT fairly quickly because I'm already experiencing done loss. They worry with me being so young that this could be a problem. They insist I need HRT; and I'll admit I do feel better since I started it.

BUT; I haven't had near the problems I've heard of with menopause. Thank Goodness!!
