remicade reactions with methotrexate | Arthritis Information

Hi,

I'm a mother of a child who has juvenile arthritis; a mother whose child is her hero. He needs many prays from all of you now.

You see, he had an adverse reaction to remicade and methotrexate in combination. Within 24 hours he was vomiting after his third infusion, and developed high liver enzymes. As well, he developed Howell Jolly bodies in his blood which are DNA fragments from the blood cells breaking down prematurely. Five months later, he now has extremely low iron, and autoantibodies to his red blood cells. He is scheduled to see a hemotologist soon. Has anyone developed had these symptoms and problems upon remicade infusions?

Dear worried mom, I'm just starting on remicade and taking methotrexate and haven't had problelms, but my gosh I can imagine how you are feeling.  I've found adjusting meds to body weight is very important, so a child (age, size?) would seem a challenge. Poor thing.  I do hope you can get better info from others. I'm doing well on prednisone, (one remicade) and 2 weeks (only) of methotrexate. I'll write again after I have my second infusion of remicade on monday.  Hurting less but feeling for you. I had a very sick child (allergic to milk products) so had constant ear infections. It is the worst feeling to want to help them (the doctor finally found out his problelm after years of treating the infections/ not the cause)

Dear "Mommy" I have never taken remicade, but I just wanted to let you know that you and your son will be in my prayers.

My heart goes out to you both. I hope your visit with the hemotologist brings some help and relief for him.

Please let us know how he does. We are here for you.

Gentle hugs and Blessings,

Nini

I'm so sorry to hear about your son.

I had a very adverse reaction to my first Remicade infusion.  I was very ill - vomiting and very sick.  But the reactions grew less with each infusion.  Remicade has been very effective for me.

One thought regarding the liver enzymes.  My enzymes were very elevated.  I read about Milk Thistle.  I started taking this every day and my enzymes returned to normal!!  I suggest maybe you look into this.  Apparently Milk Thistle is documented to heal the liver.

Best wishes to you.

Randy
