RA and lower back pain | Arthritis Information

I need some information and hope one of you can help me.  Can  RA cause low back pain on one side?  I have had kidney stones in the past but the last time I had this back pain there were no kidney stones on the CT scan.  So I just waited it out and it finally subsided.  Now that I have been diagnosed with RA and have that same pain this evening, I was wondering if any of you have had it too? It is at the waist and it is really awful.  Thanks for your help!  Susan LeeIt could be some inflammation around the top of the hip, where it joins with the pelvis. Lots of ligaments around there, might be pressing on the Sciatic nerve which runs from the lower back through the thigh. I get that kind of an ache now and again if ive been on my feet all day, seems to spread up one side of the lower back from the hip. It can be very irritating and sore.Thank you so much for your info.  That is just what is happening.  It is spreading from my hip to my spine at my waist.  I just don't want to have to go to the kidney doctor again if it is something from RA.  Hearing you had the same problem certainly helped.  Got up this morning feeling fine and when I started to walk it started all over again.  Part of it is the fact that I am so excited to be able to walk any distance!  The Mxt and prednisone are helping and it feels so feeing!!!:)  Know what I mean? Thanks again and hope you are having a good day!  Susan Lee

Sounds like you've had enough kidney problems to know the strong warning signs there...but I'm sure it can get confusing. That's one thing about this disease; at times we're all bad to blow things off just thinking it's RA when it maybe something else. I'd think if it was anything else though it would escalate to a level that you couldn't blow it off.

Hope you feel better Sweetie. I know your pain.

Thank you so much for you kind wishes, Lovie. I am so sorry that you go through this too.  If it happens in the near future, please write me for support.  I will surely understand!

I had a better day today.  Had the hip/back pain for awhile this morning and then it stopped.  I remember having that pain years ago on both sides that did not stop for days!  They thought it was from my polio limp and the fact it had caused degenerative disease of the spine.  Now I am wondering if that too was from RA.

Hope this information helps everyone who has gone through this!  Thanks again!  Susan Lee

Hi all. I just found out I have RA in the past couple of days. Had some idea, but hearing the words is a bitter pill to swollow. Probably the first of many. Anyway, besides having hand problems(3 operations for synovitis & such), I've had chronic back and hip pain all of my adult life. I'm only 44, so what's the rest of my life going to entail? Are there really great new drugs out there? I just bought a house with a pool and everything I'm supposed to be taking, doesn't agree with sunshine. I already have given up so much without knowing what I had wrong with my body. Now that there is a name to all these symptoms I'm a hitman! Where to go? What to do? Trials? I won't see a RA Doc for a month at least, so I need all the info I can get. This place looks like a plethera of info and nice people. That's all. Nice to see other people out there with the same exact things going on in their life as mine.

Yes, I too suffer from lower back and hip pain.  Some days worse than others.  I'm trying not to think about my future, as my grandmother ended up in a wheelchair from RA.  I'm focusing on the fact that there are many more treatments out there for me than what she had.  I'm not going to let this beast get me down.

Monk, I'm sorry you've had to join our RA club, but very glad you're here.  This is definitely a great place to gather information, get much support, and make some great friends.  Welcome.

Monk you can still use that pool, you just need to use a real good sunblock and only stay in the sun at short intervals.  You can wear a tshirt in the pool and that will help from getting too burnt.  The pool will be very good because you can do exercises in the pool that will not cause more stress on your joints.  water therapy is very good for ra.  Remember to reapply sunblock after getting out of the pool.   Welcome to the boards glad to see you here!!!  meme
