Dentist up Pred. | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone, I broke a tooth, lost the filling and part of the tooth and have to have it removed. The dentist rang my GP, when I told her I have been taking 10mgs of Pred for a year, and I have to take 25mgs Pred 2 hours before I have the extraction done. I did'nt know about this and thought maybe others might not either, so just sharing another Pred side line!!

I am also having a skin cancer spot removed from my leg in a couple of weeks. I asked the surgeon about my taking Pred ect. He said as I was on such a low dose not to do anything extra. (this is the Dr whose father has had PMR for years.. still on 4mg Pred.) So I'm now not sure what the difference is between my tooth extraction and the leg surgery?? Has anyone else had similar incidences?

I'm am at 6 mg and just had general anesthesia, but no one said anything about it to me, and they were of course aware that I take it.  I guess the lower dosages don't matter so much since I woke up. That's good.  I would not have liked having "colonoscopy" listed as the cause of death

Up date on dentist visit. Well what an ordeal! Remaining tooth broke so the rest had to be levered out until she could get a grip. Ouchhh!!

Anyway alls well today.. I asked the reason why she had to ring my GP to up the Pred. and she said (Chinese Dentist so I think this is what she said)

Dental procedures can be very stressful and because I am on steroids my natural cortisole is not being made, we need to up the Pred.. so I did'nt faint and have to get carted off to hospital in an Ambulance!!!

Must admit I did feel lightheaded so I am glad I took the extra 15mgs. She said she would not have taken my tooth out if I had'nt.

Just passing this on because it seems we all get different advice as I did with the surgeon who thinks he is going to slice into my leg without any more Pred. so I don't faint!!! I will see my GP before I have this procedure done just in case. Hope its been a better day for everyone x

Hi all, Thanks Georgianna, I'm glad you laughed. That may be my only gift...making people laugh.  God just told me to go forth and make people laugh and don't be pouncing on people demanding to know, "Do you know Jesus?!!!!"   He knows I'm not good at that. But, I am good at laughing at things that make me cry...like PMR. Thank you, girlfriend.  Love and have a wonderful day.Betsy,

As long as we can keep laughing about things, we're doing all right. And you certainly help to keep us all lighthearted with your posts. "Death by Colonoscopy" --- hmmmm, sounds like the title to a mystery novel. Hi Reni, You are just too sweet. Thank you for your nice comments.
