Fish oil revisited | Arthritis Information

I went to the eye doctor regarding dry eyes and he wants me on fish oil. He did stress don't buy cheap on fish oil; go for the good stuff.

I just bought GNC Ultra Strength Fish Body Oil for 19.99 for 60 capsules. It's enteric coated so not supposed to have fishy burps, and has 600mg EPA and 240 DHA. I went to the GNC store, but it's also available online at drugstore.com

The eye doc says to start at 2000mg to eventually get to 4000.

Everything I've read really is positive about fish oil and RA. I also look forward to better skin, nails and hair as I think I'm at least a quart low on oil.

Beware the "fishy burps" as my little neice calls them.  I can't seem to handle the digestion of fish oil without burping.  I'm not usually the burping sort-even with soda-- but fish oil causes an uncontrollable burp fest.  Good luck.  K-Lynn39134.735474537

I hope you don't burp it up like I did on garlic pills.  That was gross

I am very happy with the Carlson Cod Liver Oil LEMON flavor.

I don't seem to burp it up like the capsules. Also..the capsules go rancid very quickly.

Works for me!!

I'm thinking I like the fish oil capsules. I have found that I need to take them after I eat otherwise I'm burping fish...NEVER good.

My eyes have been a lot better since I've started the capsules. I was on 3 different kinds of eye drops (10 drops a day!) and was supposed to get tear duct plugs this month. Not sure I need to now.

I am still waiting for all those other benefits of fish oil, but even if it's just to help the dry eyes, I'll keep taking them.

Actually, cod liver oil is not ideal because it has a lot of Vitamin A and D in it and you can overdose on those. Fish oil is made from the body of the fish and does not have Vitamin A or D, so you can take a lot of it.  I've also read that the liver oil is more likely to hold the pollutants such as mercury. Scout, I don't know if you know this but there's a really long thread about fish oil on this forum. (You probably do because this thread is titled Fish Oil REVISITED) Here's the link

I've been taking large doses of fish oil for about 4 months and it seems to have helped my inflammation quite a bit!

Gimpy-a-gogo39144.7664236111I have been using salmon oil for months, and I really do believe it
greatly helps inflammation.

Cod liver oil does contain high levels of Vitamins A and D; which is
not good if taken in too high a dosage.

I think it's possible to buy Cod liver oil that has been "stripped" of
those vitamins; but I have never been able to find any.
