I am curious if anyone here saw Oprah and Ellen's shows where they had guests on talking about a new book and DVD called "The Secret".  It is apparently wildly popular - my son works in a bookstore and they can't even get in enough to fill the back orders.

I ordered a copy of the DVD and plan to watch it with my husband this weekend.  Has anyone got any first hand knowledge about this philosophy?

Huh??? How do I seem to miss *EVERYTHING*  I had the TV on day before yesterday and I heard a little snip it of that.....what's it all about? Do you know? Well if we knew, then it wouldn't be a secret......

haha
Oh, let me in on the secret. Please! Please!

I didn't see it on tv.  But, my pastor suggested watching The Secret in helping me deal with this whole RA thing.  I haven't done it yet, of course.  Here is a link he gave me though.

Hope that is what you were looking for!!

I don't want to sound like I'm promoting it - I don't know enough about it to promote it.  (Although I was really wanting to be in the running for The Spammy award.

.

I saw a little of it. What I got out of it was really nothing new.  They said we are "energy"  and  we have to send out good thoughts to receive good thoughts.  For instance,  If you are in debt, don't think about the debt as a negative thing. Think about how you will feel and what you will do when the debt is paid off. You will be free from negativity in that area.

Back to the power of positive thinking!!!!!!

Oh Groovy! I'm a firm believer in this theroy. I'll have to check that out. There are so many called "Secrets" out there and I guess the "Secret" is to apply them to our life.
Hillhoney, I will be anxious to hear what you have to say about this.
I have watched the DVD twice and it really helped me with the depression I have been in since getting RA.  I am now trying to live my life in the "secret" way.  It makes me feel so much better and gives me hope for the future.  I think everyone should see the DVD.  Thanks LynnAnn - that's great to hear!

At one of my appointments with my acupunture dude, his office manager mentioned it to me.  That same night, a neighbor dropped off a gift for me:  That book!!!

I just started reading it.  I do believe that if you keep thinking all negative thoughts it's hard to become positive about anything.

We'll see.  I did take my first dose of MTX and kept repeating ...I will not get sick, I will not get sick.  Guess what?  I got sick.  That's how this whole thing came about....the girl in the office and my friend said that I put out the wrong message to the universe.  I guess the universe doesn't pick up on the negative aspect, and just sent me what it thought I was looking for...to get sick.  Now then, I took my second dose of MTX yesterday, sent the message to the universe all week that I appreciate feeling great after my MTX.  Well, I haven't barfed yet and I'm not quite as dizzy as I was last week.  Is this because the secret came into action or because my body is adjusting to MTX?  Who knows.....

Maybe some of both. That's pretty quick though for your body to have "adjusted" to it.

I haven't read this book or even heard of "The Secret" until now; but I have read lots of books about Positive Thinking and Positive Imaging.

You do have to change your way of thinking though; and if you set out to prove it's all a bunch of crap; you'll do just that. If you go into it believing and expecting the best; that's what you'll get. It's not a new concept. It's a good one; but certainly not new.

I'm going to have to check this out though. You can never learn too much about how to prefect the techniques. It does take practice. It doesn't happen over night; but if you keep filling your head with positive messages eventually they take over and they'll be far more powerful than the negative ones that occationally slip in.

These messages are very simular to having faith in God in my opinion. There are many Spiritual Leaders who preach on a very simular belief; but they term it "Having Faith in God". Joel Osteen is my favorite at the present time.

That sounds encouraging Debrakay - I hope you continue to feel better.

From what I saw on Oprah, the idea is to be grateful for what we have now and truly feel blessed for all that has been given to us.  Not to focus on our fears of all the negative possibilities, but rather on the positive.  Perhaps gratitude that there is a medication like MTX which gives you the opportunity to feel better and treat your disease is a good place to start.  As you are about to take your MTX, focus on how lucky you are that there is this treatment and future treatments to help you.  Be grateful that there are physicians and scientists working every day on finding new and better treatments for this and other illnesses.

That is my take on the theory at this point - I really want to believe that we do have some control in our lives and destiny, and I want to learn how to do it!

I'm with you Hillhoney.  I'll do anything.  You wouldn't believe the people that think I'm nuts going to acupuncture.  I know it's hard for some to understand, it is for me too.  However, you have to know me.  I'm not the sit around and cry type of a person.  I want my life back.  If that means I go for acupuncture, keep my positive energy flowing, take my medications, etc., I'll do it.  Do I have my moments of feeling sorry for myself, being pissed off that my life has changed, absolutely.  But, I'm working on that.  Perhaps my new book can help me with that.

Life is too short.  That's my bottom line.  I want to enjoy my time here.  Situations change, along with this type of illness there is limitations as to what you can physically do.  I guess the answer is to find new things.  Right?

Debra; I think everyone....even those of us that have this Positive Energy thing going on will always face Challenges in life. It's not going to take all of that away; but I think once you learn to apply these practices in your life it helps you learn to deal with these things in a productive manner. It helps you learn how to take on a "All is not lost" attitude.

I think at times some of the things we all face is not all that different. I just think the difference is how we deal with these things.

Well said Lovie.  Thank you.

I just received my DVD yesterday. My husband is out of town and I don't think I can wait until he returns to watch it.

For those of you that have already seen it; do you think it's approprate for my children (17 & 13) to watch with me? I'm always pushing postive thinking around the house and my 13 year old daughter is all over it. She's a straight A student and is just an all around great kid. Involved in all sorts of things with tons of friends. I really believe her attitude is helping to advance her in her young life already. My 17 year old son needs to a little help though. I really would like to help him practice a little more of this. I know that had I known then what I know now things would have been very different for me when I was younger. Not that I regret anything in my past because it's all brought me to the present (Which I'm very happy with) but certain aspects of my life would have been much easier had I known how to control my mind like I do now.

Where does everyone stand now with this subject? This topic has been pushed back but I'd like to hear how everyone is feeling about it all now that they have had a chance to read the book or watch the DVD.

Lovie39177.2532060185ITS REALLY GOOD.MY DAUGHTER HAS IT

I can report that in my home it is really making a difference and things are on a positive roll.  I haven't won a gazillion dollar lottery yet, but there have been many things falling into place and I'm feeling much better about what tomorrow may bring.

Good luck everyone!

Groovy! I'll do that.

Glad to hear things are on on up spin for you.

My daughter and I watched the DVD last night. My son of course had other plans and we could only get him to watch it long enough to eat his hamburger then he was gone. (We went to Wendy's and ate while we watched the DVD)

I was afraid my daughter was getting bored with it and I suggested we stop it and watch the rest later after we'd already watched about an hour but she insisted she wanted to watch all of it.

I think we've already been applying a lot of this to our lives already; but I still think we'll get a lot out of it. I agreed with pretty much everything they said.

When they talked about the power of healing and "Dis-Ease" my daughter looked at me with a raised eyebrow and said "Momma, do you think you could make your arthritis go away just by imaging it was gone?" I said; well I'm not sure about that, but I do know that when I dwell on how bad I feel I only continue to feel worse and when I try to put pain out of my mind and stay positive I sure do manage life better. Maybe we can; I won't say we can't". She just nodded.

They sure did say a lot of things that can help a lot of people if they would only enter into it with the right attitude. I know I'll get a lot from it myself.

I will have to say I've been using a lot of this already; but I see the "universe" as they kept referring to it as God. I think using these methods in conjunction with my Christian faith will just make it all the stronger.
