Is this normal? | Arthritis Information

So I went for my remicade infusion yesterday, and was examined afterwards, like always. The doc pushed on one side of my stomach, near the ribs, and it hurt like crazy on the other side. About a half hour later I started to feel sick. I got home and was laying on the sofa, and that side of my stomach she pressed on hurt so badly I didnt want to move or even breath. My mom and dad got me some tyenol 3 and a cup of water. So I am drinking the water, and the water felt so cold in my stomach, so I looked at that side, and that one side was so swolen. It was huge, and red, like it would be on a joint during a flare. Anyone know what is going on?

I've had 4 infusions and not had any of that. I'd say call the doctor back and let them know what's up. Post again and let us know what you find out and how you're feeling.

Your ribs are not a joint right? So it couldnt be arthritis then? This has never happened before, and it was my 5th or 6th infusion. Althought this last thime they expanded it to 6 weeks instead of 4, but they moved it back to 4.No, RA *can* effect your ribs. BUT since it happened after an infusion, PLEASE call your doctor to make sure that it's not a reaction. Better safe than sorry! :) Poor hun....just can't win, can ya????? *hugs*

makemelaff22,

I saw those symptoms several months ago when I was doing some research on my husbands symptoms.  I tried to find the article, but couldn't.  It was talking about pain that presented on the left side when they pushed on the right.  Does that match your symptoms?  I'm not sure, but I thought it was either liver or pancreas.

Also, I've read other people with RA having problems with pain in their ribs.  I believe it is called Costochondritis.

I think you should call your doctor.  It sounds like it could be serious.

Wishing you the best.

yea she pressed on the left side, and I felt it on the right side, yet the left ribs swelled up. makemelaff2239137.391875
